11-year-old Braydon Smith was home alone in his room when a burglar broke through the front door. The man told Braydon to hide in a closet, then started taking things from around the house. But Braydon remembered something his dad had told him: โIf someone ever breaks in, donโt be afraid to fight back.โ And thatโs exactly what Braydon did.
โHe pointed a pellet gun at me โ it was one we had in the house. I knew it wasnโt loaded, so I just sat down and went into the closet like he told me,โ Braydon explained. โThen he went into the living room to grab my phone, probably to make sure I couldnโt call 911.โ
But the burglar had no idea Braydon wasnโt done. While the manโs back was turned, Braydon reached for a machete he kept nearby for clearing bushes. He ran at the burglar and hit him on the head. The man quickly ran out of the house, but he was later caught at a local hospital.
โI knew if I didnโt do something, he might take me with himโฆ he couldโve done anything,โ Braydon told a reporter.
Once it was all over, Braydon had just one question: would he still make it to his baseball game?
