The benefits of access to green space are well-publicised. The lack of access is also known to be harmful, especially to children.
Which makes the Government’s quiet dropping of their plans to make access to green space legally binding even more puzzling theguardian.com/environment/…
So close!

ATTENTION - anyone want to lift the spirits of a disheartened greenspace volunteer group? 🙏 Pls give these lovely folk a follow. We’ve all had low points, but together we help & gain strength. Keep sharing on here Forus Tree! 🌳
Clearly very little interest on #twitter for what we do and minimal support for us here. Prob time to move on and stop posting on here. Lots of work to crack on with in the real world while the world burns and our leaders sit idle applauding themselves for achieving sweet nothing
'Govt. shelve pledge for everyone in England to live 15 minutes from a green space' - @Guardiantheguardian.com/environment/…
The government has no plans to meet its target for everyone to live within a 15-minute walk of a green space. Ministers have also scrapped an idea to make the target for access to nature legally binding.
According to government data, 38% of the country live more than a 15-minute walk from a green or blue space. The data provided to ministers also states that “in the 200 most disadvantaged lower super output areas in urban settings with the lowest levels of green space, 97% have no access to green space within 15 minutes’ walk from home”.
A @DefraGovUK spokesperson said: “We are increasing access to nature and just last week we announced an ambitious package of measures, including a search for a new national park and funding to help more children get outdoors and into the countryside, making our green spaces accessible for all communities. Work is ongoing to develop an approach to monitoring and evaluating our vital commitment that every household should be within a 15-minute walk of a green space or water.”
@Right_2Roam campaign, said: “The next government needs to be bold and give the public a default right of responsible access with sensible exceptions. Without this, meeting the 15 minutes goal will prove impossible.”

They’ve also scrapped plans to make the target for access legally binding.
Can’t have people enjoying nature; they might start to fight for it, and then where would we be? theguardian.com/environment/…

The snow has almost gone now, but when it was blanketing the paths we could see the adorable prints of our resident wildlife and regular visitors! Birds, squirrels, and pooches all made these prints. Did you venture out into the snow and spot any others? ❄️☃️
