A highlight at the Chronicle this week: Melanie Lundquist, one of the nation’s most prolific donors, stopped by our offices for a conversation with our staff. Lundquist, who has appeared on our Philanthropy 50 (
#PHIL50) ranking of most-generous donors and a Giving Pledger, offered thoughts on what’s important for us to cover – and where she sees room for improvement in philanthropy.
One area where Melanie especially wants to see philanthropic action: protecting democracy. During our discussion, Lundquist pulled out a print copy of our 2019 issue with this cover story: Can Philanthropy Save Democracy?, an issue she keeps with her to show others.
She also pulled out of her briefcase our latest print issue and pointed to how our piece on Jim Barksdale’s “Mississippi Miracle” will help her in her work as a founding donor and vice board chair of the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools.
