🚨 THINK BEFORE YOU MARCH!
Does Ngizwe Mchunu know that a huge portion of Johannesburg's economy depends on investors, traders and business owners from countries such as China, Ethiopia, India, Somalia, Egypt, Bangladesh, Nigeria and many other African nations?
If you chase them all away, what happens to Johannesburg's economy?
Johannesburg is South Africa's economic engine. It supplies goods to businesses and consumers across all nine provinces. Thousands of South Africans work in supply chains, transport, warehousing, retail, security, logistics and many other industries linked to these businesses.
Even the City of Johannesburg Municipality depends on rates, taxes, permits, licences and other revenue generated through economic activity.
The real question is not whether illegal immigration should be addressed—it should be, through the law. The question is: how do you enforce immigration laws without crippling the economy that feeds millions of South Africans?
South Africa needs law enforcement, not economic self-destruction. Think beyond today's march and ask: what does Johannesburg, South Africa look like tomorrow?
