Is it just me or does James Cartlidge, Tory MP, remind you of Fast Show's Swiss Tony?

If you or one of your loved ones has Alzheimer’s disease, encourage them to wait for placebo-controlled, blinded trial data before they take any medication or supplement. These jokers who rave uncritically about what are probably placebo effects aren’t helpful to people with AD.
If you or one of your loved ones has Alzheimer’s dementia, encourage them to take 20 grams of Creatine daily. This study shows that cognition improved in just 8 weeks with the addition of creatine. It mixes easily with most liquids and is tasteless. Simple, cheap, and safe! I personally take one from Native Path but there are many good quality companies.

🧡Why is mental health disability rising? Here are key reasons rarely discussed in mainstream media: 1️/ For decades we've neglected tackling the social determinants of societal distress, relying instead on medicalisation as a superficial β€˜fix’ for downstream harms. This has...

I would've expelled Antisocial Personality Dsorder from DSM-IV. Why? Its criteria just describe bad behavior/there's no treatment. But we had set such high threshold for making any changes, it was grandfathered in. Unfortunate because confuses distinction between bad & ill.
Replying to @AllenFrancesMD
Genuine question: If the DSM considers antisocial personality disorder a mental illness, how can a distinction be made between mental illness and bad behavior? The same could be said for NPD in some cases.

This piece gives 8 reasons #ADHD rates have more than tripled in last 30 years. But leaves out 4 most important: 1)DSM/ICD criteria were loosened 2)Pharma marketing to clinicians/parents/teachers/patients 3)Careless fad diagnosis 4)Social media contagion search.app?link=https:/%…

The main issue is that unfortunately Donanemab and Lecanemab have very limited clinical benefit.
23 Oct 2024
Donanemab is not recommended by NICE for cognitive impairment or dementia caused by Alzheimer's. This is due to limited benefits and high costs, including monthly infusions and intensive side effect monitoring, therefore it not good use for the taxpayer: nice.org.uk/news/articles/ne…

Wes Streeting has a very odd belief that a person’s weight is the primary eligibility condition for being employed. Why else is he obsessing about weight loss to get people back to work?

Sad to see that this is the state of accommodation on offer to NHS staff @AneurinBevanUHB 😒

The NHS may be broken, according to @UKLabour @wesstreeting, but here’s how to fix it. Prevention, Prevention, Prevention, Prevention…. 1. Prevent poverty. It’s the single biggest determinant of ill health, and health and social care demand, both now and in the future. Blair and Brown made good progress in reducing it. So it can be done. 2. Prevent illness, with a relentless focus on living well, self-care, mental health support and tackling the commercial determinants of illness. Dental disease is the commonest cause of childhood operations, and yet it’s almost 100% preventable. 3. Prevent existing risks and diseases getting worse, with evidence-based screening and a substantial shift in resources to primary, community and social care 4. Preventing waste and medical harm, by ensuring patients receive the right care, in the right place, from the right people at the right time. This is the toughest nut to crack, as it requires adequate numbers of well trained and well rested staff working in safe, clean environments with the right equipment. We currently spent three times as much litigating harms from maternity care than we do on maternity care. This is a permanent disaster and would be a very good place to start. Instead of repeating our mistakes, we need to learn from them. General reaction to NICE announcement about lecanemab among old age psychiatry colleagues who work in memory services seems to be relief and gratitude to the members of the panel who have made a sensible decision that protects patients and NHS services for people with dementia.

Can we please see an end to manufactured outrage about the NHS’s lack of preparedness for new dementia drugs, only 2% of people getting a β€œproper” diagnosis, etc? When treatments that make a worthwhile difference in dementia come along, we’ll move heaven and earth to be ready.

Our committee is unable to recommend lecanemab for treating mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia caused by Alzheimer’s disease. Benefits of slowing disease progression, by 4-6 months on average, can not justify the high cost to the NHS. Learn more: nice.org.uk/news/articles/be…

Some people saying council tax should be based on the services used. I'm not sure that's thought through. If taxes were based solely on what you get out, the poorest would pay the most, the richest the least (as they do most things privately). In fact they wouldn't be taxes it'd be a series of service charges. Instead tax is the cost of living in a legitimate civil society. By contributing towards the common good, you hopefully live in a more contented society (less civil unrest to start with) which means when people need support they get some.
