The worst time of my life came when I became chronically ill and had to claim benefits for the first time in my life I was left destitute twice by the DWP, and had to rely on Foodbanks to feed my family I failed 2 work capability assessments, even though I was virtually bedbound
The only people who think the benefits system is a picnic are those who know absolutely nothing about it and lap up the misinformation. If you ever need to use it your views will change. Society should be judged by how it treats the less well off.

Rich people don't die if you tax them. Poor people do die when you cut welfare and healthcare. no comment, just 2 facts.

Always worth remembering that eugenics starts with fomenting hate against the sick and disabled, the 'useless eaters', as the Nazis called them. They're the first target, and never the last. Canaries are singing loud and clear in the coal mines. We should be attending to them.

‘Get them back to work!’ Former Tory Leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith discusses statistics that confirm more than half a million people now claim disability benefits for anxiety.

I was hopeful a year ago about Burnham when he started to talk about the State & about class politics but the last 4 weeks the Burnham campaign has been very clearly a campaign to save the Labour Party for the middle class liberal - its actually been shameful. Working class people they dont care about us they care about them.

Where do the politicians think the money paid out in welfare goes? Do they think it gets whisked off offshore? It gets spent back into the economy and taxes. Funny how not one person mentions that isn't it.

Hopefully one day it will have been considered deeply shameful to have been party to this naked propaganda against the sick and disabled.
"It's insulting to all of us who work and pay our taxes to fund these people to do nothing..." The panel clash on whether sickness benefits should be cut. @IsabelWebster_ | @alysdenby | @darrylmorris | #MattAllwright

We are not 'parked on benefits', we are sick and disabled. This is a disgraceful way to talk about people who have (like myself) become in need of state support due to illness and disability. Park your ridiculous report.
Almost 1,000 people a day are joining health and disability benefits. A system that leaves people parked on benefits is failing them. We need an emergency handbrake on welfare spending - reform that reduces the bill, supports people into work, and frees up resources for the state. Read more: institute.global/insights/pu…

For those who have forgotten the past 40 years: Tax cuts for the rich ...don’t trickle down Boosting military spending ...doesn’t bring peace Slashing regulations ...doesn’t create jobs Folks, we’ve seen this all before.

Believing that billionaires and trillionaires are fighting for the working class requires an almost comical level of delusion.

Just a reminder that Helen and the Conservative Party is currently being investigated by the UK statistics watchdog for making misleading claims about welfare and social security spending. 🙂 disabilitynewsservice.com/uk…
I’ve launched a review of the sickness benefits system. It’s broken. Last year we set out £23bn welfare savings including stopping benefits to foreigners & for milder mental health. This review will look at the whole system and set out our plan to fix it.

PIP representing 7.4 % of the welfare bill overall. Of this those aged 55 and over account for approximately 41% to 45% of claimants of PIP. There is a direct and statistically proven correlation between the rise in the State Pension Age (SPA) and the surge in PIP. 🤔
PIP claims forecast to soar by 3 million to 5.4 million by 2030 - 836 new successful claims every single day for a decade (@thetimes). A welfare system meant to support the vulnerable has become totally unsustainable for taxpayers funding it. Entire system needs overhaul

In their election manifesto the Conservatives said they could cut welfare spending by £4bn. Today, less than two years later, they’re talking £23bn. Almost as if the number isn’t derived from the evidence but from whatever size headline is needed to keep the welfare panic going

I don't mind at all having to pay taxes when the poor can't. What really pisses me off is having to pay taxes when the rich won't.

The UK has somehow convinced people that working full time and still being broke is completely normal.

The UK keeps acting like people are struggling because they're not trying hard enough and are bad with money. Mate, people are exhausted. They're working full time jobs, taking extra shifts and spending weekends trying to make a few extra quid online. The reality is people aren't falling behind because they don't work hard. They're falling behind because the cost of living is insane and wages just aren't keeping up.
