I actually learnt this thing when I left Nigeria. I honestly can’t count how many people tried to befriend me since then
There is this girl I went to secondary school with and few years ago I usually admire her a lot.
She always looked like she had it all figured out, the outfits, the pictures, the confidence, a standard instagram hot babe ooo. I won’t lie, I used to envy her a little.
I use to like her posts, drop comments, even reached out once to check on her. She saw it and said nothing.
Left on read.
Life moved on.
I don’t really use instagram but the little I did, this girl never liked any of my posts back but from my post showing that I left Nigeria…. I became visible.
Now she sees my posts. Now she likes them. Now she messages first. She even talked about reunion, asking me for support when I’m clearly not even going to be there
And it made me realise something a lot of people don’t like to admit:
The moment you start “looking like you’ve made it,” people remember you.
Not because they suddenly discovered your value but because your value became visible to them.
Growth will reveal you… but it will also reveal people.
Nobody knows your papa when you're struggling.
But the moment you make it, everybody wants to be your friend.
