There’s a peculiarly Canadian tendency to tear down successful people who any other nation would celebrate. Ted Rogers did more good for Canada than all of his churlish critics put together have done.
I was glad to get this photo last year. Ted Rogers was a strong patriot, and made insanely risky bets on Canada, bets that paid off. He generated wealth by providing capital intensive services to millions of Canadians.

This is the very simple point that politicians so often miss: each of us wants to be treated with respect. It costs very little, but it generates an enormous amount of good will. And good will is the glue that holds our incredibly diverse country together.
Excellent piece by @JohnIbbitson. As someone who is and always will be a patriotic Canadian, I encourage central Canadians to read his excellent synopsis of Western / Alberta alienation. First and foremost, Albertans want to be respected, but too often feel like we are treated like the ugly step child of Confederation. Alberta has been central to modern Canada’s prosperity. All we really seek is the ability to build on that economic dynamism, and unleash our entrepreneurial culture without constraints from Ottawa and other provinces.

It’s time for the provinces to stop talking about interprovincial barriers and start acting. Nobody else is forcing us to erect these barriers. It’s a self-inflicted wound. ca.news.yahoo.com/john-iviso…

Even if you can’t attend the game, it’s a tremendous night to be in Montreal. People are charged up. Whenever the action becomes intense, I can hear the crowd outside the Bell Centre blocks away in my hotel room.

Rick Hansen is a genuine Canadian hero who inspires us to understand that Canadians with disabilities must be able to participate fully and with dignity. Canada is a rich society, but not so rich that we can waste the potential of any of our citizens. ctvnews.ca/politics/article/…

It’s not at all surprising that Washington is pressuring Canada to make a decision on the F-35 while the CUSMA negotiations are still in play. And it’s precisely why Canada should not be rushed.

Has Canada long neglected defence? 100% true. But it just reached 2% of GDP, with more to come. Strong alliances have always been a key US advantage relative to the USSR and now China; Trump is squandering what has long been a major source of US power.
A strong Canada that prioritizes hard power over rhetoric benefits us all. Unfortunately, Canada has failed to make credible progress on its defense commitments. DoW is pausing the Permanent Joint Board on Defense to reassess how this forum benefits shared North American defense. 1/3

My uncle, Lieut. Henry Perrin, died at 22 in the liberation of Holland on April 7, 1945. He is buried in the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten. The Dutch are the most remarkable of nationalities because they have never forgotten. There is an enduring bond between our two countries.

The World's Dumbest Tariff Has Been Revealed “Trump’s 50% tariff and removal of an exemption for Canada drove producers there to send US-bound shipments to Europe instead. In just a few months, Aluminerie Alouette – North America's largest smelter – saw its European sales rise from 4% of production to 57%. Rio Tinto Plc largely stopped shipping Canadian aluminum to the US, and even Alcoa diverted around 100,000 metric tons to non-US destinations.” bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…
