Trade plays a powerful role in Fiji’s economy.
And #Fiji plays a powerful role in the global trading system.
A powerful voice in supporting #OurOcean, trade and environment and in so many other areas.
“Bula”, Team Fiji, to Geneva
The next and newest Member of the @WTO will be our close friend and neighbour, #TimorLeste.

New agreements at the WTO ?
✅ In 2021, the global services trade deal on behind-the-border barriers concluded
✅ In 2022, the fisheries subsidies treaty concluded
… and, just today,
✅ the 2023 Investment Facilitation negotiations concluded

@PeterDraper5's latest co-authored Think20 brief is out. We pose (and hopefully answer) 2 key questions for our age: How Do Trade and Investment Contribute to Peace and Stability? What Should G20 Policymakers Do? orfonline.org/research/how-d… via @orfonline
For mitigating geopolitical tensions that are creating fault lines within the #WTO, a pragmatic option is to increase the utilisation of flexibilities, note @Psm_cuts, Sneha Singh, @badrinarayanang, @PeterDraper5, Hamid Mamdouh, Heribert Dieter. or-f.org/122245
A landmark speech by Trade Minister Don Farrell:
“WTO rules underpin the global trading system, a system that is absolutely fundamental to Australia's prosperity and security.
A system vital to our region's economic progress and stability.”
