Tomorrow, world leaders will gather in #Johannesburg for the G20 #SouthAfrica summit to address today’s most pressing global challenges. The #T20 engagement group communiqué calls for several policy actions, including a call for the #G20 “to launch a security-sector anti-corruption initiative to ensure that the #securitysector supports rather than hinders development and #stability.” This recommendation builds on a recent T20 policy brief co-authored by DCAF’s Hans Born & Alice Alunni, together with Lindy Heinecken & Wilhelm Janse van Rensburg. The brief recommends that the #G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group launch a new initiative on countering corruption in the security sector by: 📝 Leveraging best practices to inform G20 High-Level principles. 📜 Creating a “Model Act” for parliamentary #oversight. 🤝 Strengthening oversight collaboration. #KAPSARC President, Fahad Alajlan, joined a panel titled “The Whole of Economy, Whole of Society Energy Transitions” at the T20 South Africa Summit. While highlighting pathways that align climate ambition with investment and innovation, the President noted that more than USD 5 trillion is needed globally to finance the transition, with particularly large funding gaps in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa. We need to ensure that the global energy transitions are not only sustainable, but also fair, equitable and development oriented. #T20Summit @T20org
