Vancouver isn’t perfect, but what this soccer moment has reiterated to me is this: If we want social connection, our policies have to allow for it. Montreal gets this. We can too. And I think this current city council wants to make it happen. I know ABC and @KenSimCity are championing more of this. Pedestrianize Granville and Robson in spring/summer. Keep Water Street car-light. Make patios bigger and easier. Let bars, cafés and pubs stay open later. Transit can adapt. Deliveries can be managed. These are solvable problems. Just look at Granville right now. People want to gather. Then think bigger: an organization focused on growing local festivals and major events. Celebration of Light, the PNE, music festivals, cultural street festivals like Italian Day and Khatsahlano. Not just tourism, but community. Cities don’t become vibrant by accident. They choose to be. Vancouver your time to choose is now.

Vancouver has absolutely aced it for the World Cup. This is 9:30pm on a Sunday when there was no massive game on TV or match on at BC Place. Best World Cup city, by a kilometre.

Vancouver 🇨🇦 is ridiculously beautiful. Mountain view at the end of city centre streets. ⛰️ Phenomenal coffee ☕️ @TreesOrganic It’s been a quick in and out for a really fun game last night ⚽️ 🇦🇺 🇹🇷 but we already can’t wait to come back. Stunning city. #fifaworldcup

British Columbians are practical people. They don’t expect government to solve every problem, but to focus on the things that matter: safe communities, reliable public services, and an economy that creates opportunity and a rising standard of living that lifts all boats. Political leadership that is consumed by ideology, partisanship, and narrow appeals to issues that make not a lick of difference to quality of life, but are intend to distract and enrage do a disservice to the people and won’t make it very far. In fact, it’s part of the reason we are plagued by the same challenges year over year, decade over decade. We need to firmly turn the page on this era, and leave it behind.

Mayor @DanielLurie's turnaround of San Francisco is an inspiration for all West Coast cities, which tend to have similar problems of homelessness and disorder. Lurie has the advantage of billions of dollars of AI investment pouring in, but he's a beacon for West Coast Democrats.
BREAKING: New poll shows @DanielLurie is the most popular American mayor. Key findings: - 74% of SF voters approve of him - Majorities support his handling of public safety, downtown revitalization, neighborhood cleanliness - He earns support from across the political spectrum

"This is the first synthetic species,” microbiologist J. Craig Venter told 60 Minutes’ Steve Kroft in 2010. His team of scientists created a synthetic bacteria designed on a computer, with man-made DNA. Venter says that from concept to completion, it took 15 years and $40 million to make. Venter, who died this week at 79, was one of the most famous scientists in the world, known for his pioneering work in deciphering the human genetic code.
