The US Supreme Court forbade discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and transgender status in a ruling on Monday. 21 states prohibit discrimination-the ruling expands protection to all parts of the country. Finally the Trump Supreme Court got something right!

The highest minimum wages are Washington DC at $14/hr and Washington state at$13.50/hr. Next was California at $13 per hour. Overall, 24 states are raising their minimum wages this year. The federal minimum wage is still $7.25/hr!

The Salt Lake City metro area posted the lowest jobless rate in November at 1.9%; highest metro jobless rate was in the New Orleans area at 4.4%. The highest nonmetro jobless rate again was in El Centro, California, at 20.6%.

There were 7.2 million job openings at the end of July, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This was the 17th straight month that the number of job openings was higher than the 6 million job seekers. If you want to work there is no better time than now.

Among metropolitan areas of all sizes in July: Burlington, Vermont posted the lowest at 1.8%. The Portland-South Portland area in Maine posted the second-lowest at 1.9%. Yuma, Arizona, posted highest at 22.1%. Not El Centro this time!

San Francisco again experienced the largest increase in wages, up 4.9% since last year. San Jose and San Diego, Calif., were also near the top of the list of metros with annual wage growth of 3.3% and 3.0%, respectively. Good news or bad news? Depends on where you sit.
