The Nashville metropolitan area in Tennessee posted the lowest unemployment rate in December among the 51 largest metro areas in the US with a jobless rate of 2.3%, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
The formal designation of the area is the Nashville-Davidson — Murfreesboro — Franklin area.
The highest unemployment rate was in Cleveland-Elyria, Ohio, with a rate of 4.9%.
Among metro areas of all sizes, Ames, Iowa, posted the lowest rate at 1.4%. The highest rates were in El Centro, Calif., at 17.3%, and Yuma, Ariz., at 15.4%

The Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington area in Minnesota and Wisconsin posted the lowest unemployment rate among all large, US metropolitan areas in October at 2.1%. The Cleveland-Elyria in Ohio posted the highest jobless rate among large metropolitan areas in October at 4.5%. /1
The lowest unemployment rate among metropolitan areas of all sizes was in Ames, Iowa, at 1.1%. El Centro, Calif., and Yuma, Ariz., had the highest unemployment rates at 19.2% and 17.7%, respectively. /2
