A great game, but Celtics should have lost in regulation via technical foul for Silas calling a timeout they didn’t have…but the ref looking right at Silas ignored it.
At Boston Garden, The Boston Celtics defeat the Phoenix Suns 128-126 in triple overtime to win the 1976 NBA Finals in Game 5. It is considered to be one of the best basketball games in history.

Not an especially huge fan but to leave Billy Joel off this list is the height of absurdity, if you’re at least considering brilliant songwriting craftsmanship as a criterion.

A shame how relatively few people in Columbia SC came to see CMB's 2 years with @GamecockMBB, those who did got a taste of what the NBA would soon learn.

It’s a paradox that we are at war with Iran when so many in this administration including Patel seem as though they would vastly prefer the Iranian approach to things like a free press.
NEW and BREAKING: The FBI began investigating New York Times reporter Elizabeth Williamson earlier this year after she published a story about how Kash Patel was using FBI personnel to provide his girlfriend with govt security and transportation. FBI agents interviewed Patel's girlfriend about Williamson, queried databases for info on the reporter and recommended moving forward to determine whether the reporter broke federal stalking laws. nytimes.com/2026/04/22/us/po…

My admiration for Jayson Tatum’s discipline and determination in coming back so quickly & strongly from his Achilles tear is tempered by the amount of commercial exploitation (which he’s party to) of that comeback I’m seeing in tonight’s ads on Amazon Prime.

A timely reminder, w/Arizona-Michigan coming up, that #FinalFour semifinal games widely assumed to be “the real championship game” often have turned out not to be so.
April 2, 1983: This dunk by Houston's Clyde Drexler against Louisville in the NCAA National Semifinal game. Drexler finished with 21 PTS/6 AST and teammate Akeem Abdul Olajuwon had 21 PTS/22 REB/8 BLK as the Cougars advanced to the National Championship with a 94-81 win.

I don’t understand coffee shops that don’t have, you know, COFFEE (as in just plain old brewed coffee) after 1 PM.

Thank you Mr. Winkler! Even in mid-sized & small cities one may well have access to hear a pretty good symphony orchestra: there have never been more excellent & superbly-trained musicians in America, many of whom are filling the ranks of orchestras everywhere.
IF You get a chance.. no matter what city you are in .. go to the Symphony in your town .. it will change your life

Completely agree. Selection Sunday was my favorite day of the sports calendar. NIL but especially the transfer portal, has made names of the schools irrelevant. Might as well just call them Team 1, Team 2, etc. NBA teams now have a much more “followable” team culture/tradition.
Of all the sports that I loved as a kid, college basketball has fallen the farthest for me. I just don’t give a shit anymore. It used to be so good. Young people today can’t even understand what we know.

Frank Caliendo really got my attention today on the Dan Patrick with this insight into doing impressions: “The mouth tells you how the person talks; the eyes tell you how the person thinks.” youtu.be/lLZKYg1ev7A?si=Epli…

As a graduate of East Mecklenburg HS, I begrudgingly salute former Myers Park HS QB Drake Maye on this accomplishment!
Drake Maye will become the first Charlotte native to start at quarterback in a Super Bowl as the Patriots advanced past the Broncos in the AFC Championship. The Myers Park High School graduate comes from a remarkable North Carolina sports family. His older brother, Luke Maye, was of course a star basketball player at UNC, leading the Tar Heels to the 2017 NCAA Championship. Beau Maye also played basketball at UNC as a walk-on, and Cole Maye was a pitcher at the University of Florida, contributing to a College World Series-winning team. Their father, Mark Maye, was also a quarterback at UNC in the '80s. Born in Huntersville, Drake grew up a Panthers fan and attended Hough High School in Cornelius before transferring to Myers Park after his freshman year. He attended the Panthers’ 2016 Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, where this year’s game will be held — beating the same team that defeated the Panthers in 2016 along the way. During the regular season, Maye threw for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions with a 72% completion percentage, giving him a chance to win the NFL's MVP at the age of 23.
