A police constable has been murdered in Hammarsdale, allegedly by her partner who is also an SAPS member. She was on leave and at the man’s house in the Mpumalanga township at the time. The boyfriend was taken to hospital with an abdominal injury, the cause of which is not clear yet. Although the motive is unknown, the SAPS says domestic-related violence is a possibility. The alleged killer is a sergeant from the Crime Intelligence division. @eNCA

Sources have told us that Medicare24 CEO Mike van Wyk has been subpoenaed to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry next week to testify. In an exclusive interview with @eNCA earlier this year, Van Wyk discussed his association with Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, explaining that Matlala had approached him with an interest in purchasing a Medicare24 franchise. Medicare24’s name became linked to the controversial R360-million SAPS/Medicare24 Tshwane District health risk management tender. The contract has since come under intense scrutiny and resulted in the arrest of several senior police officials. The state alleges that the tender was irregularly awarded to Matlala’s company despite concerns over licensing and compliance. [BREAKING] The Gauteng Provincial Government has announced the immediate precautionary suspension of Gauteng Traffic Police Chief Inspector Samuel Mashaba pending the outcome of a formal disciplinary process. The suspension follows testimony delivered by Mashaba before the Madlanga Commission, where he allegedly made admissions relating to conduct that may amount to serious violations of the Public Service Code of Conduct, departmental policies and laws governing public servants. According to the Office of the Premier, the allegations against Mashaba include the alleged misuse of powers entrusted to him as a law enforcement officer, the misuse of departmental tools and state resources, as well as the acceptance of compensation from a member of the public under circumstances that raise concerns about ethical conduct and possible conflicts of interest. The Gauteng government said it views the allegations in a serious light and stressed that public officials are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability. As part of the suspension conditions, Mashaba has been instructed to hand over all government-issued equipment and tools of trade, including firearms, phones and laptops. He has also been barred from entering government buildings or communicating with staff members, with authorities saying this is necessary to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation and disciplinary proceedings. The provincial government reiterated its commitment to building an ethical and capable public service that serves residents honestly and transparently.
