Great post, and timely in light of the new NIH data sharing requirements. One suggested addition to the list of challenges - we need effective advertising to make more people aware of these databases. CSD folks, check out PhonBank, FluencyBank, AphasiaBank, DementiaBank...
We want data to be FAIR - findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable. Big piles of data in generic repositories are findable, but no one reuses them. To promote *reuse* we need... domain specific data repositories (DSDRs).
