I work on cryptographic verification for sequences, e.g. software pipelines and information supply chains. These structures may be similar. In that world, it's no longer enough to have a hash of a file. A signed hash is more of a static mental model: compare one point in time against its mirrored image. Today, the problem space has expanded to verifying the validity of the conditions that triggered each state transition. Verification of conditions requires checking: authority to alter the state of that particular object in a certain order based on the object's path to the current state I think there's a parallel from my world of chained events to the problems you're both posing.
