In December 2004, a guy named Gary Brolsma uploaded a video called "Numa Numa Dance" to the site Newgrounds. It was just a webcam recording of him sitting in his chair, pumping his arms and lip-syncing to the Romanian song "Dragostea din tei" by O-Zone. People started sharing it everywhere, and it ended up becoming one of the very first videos to go massively viral on the internet.
