CASE UPDATE from @FBIPortland: A Portland man was sentenced to federal prison after striking an officer in the head with a large rock at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in South Portland. Robert Jacob Hoopes was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay over $8,000 in restitution. Today’s story behind the numbers: Five Atlanta gang members sentenced to federal prison. These criminals are a part of Atlanta-based GoodFellas gang, and all charges were related to gang activity and used violence to further their criminal enterprise. 23-year-old DeAndre Jackson was sentenced to the longest prison term at nearly 16 years for his involvement in a shooting involving a child at an Atlanta apartment building. The shooting targeted a woman the gang deemed as “disloyal” before firing approximately 50 rounds towards the woman and her 6-year-old son as they walked to the mailbox. The woman was shot more than 6 times and the son shot three times. A 14-year-old bystander was also shot in the ear. All three survived. An investigation by @FBIAtlanta and law enforcement partners at the Atlanta Police Department lead to their charge and eventual sentencing. This FBI continues its historic crackdown on gang violence with over 650 gangs and criminal enterprises disrupted, a 184% increase in violent gang takedowns, and nearly 12,000 violent crime arrests (up 39%) this year alone. fox5atlanta.com/news/goodfel…
