As a long-time queer I wanna remind folks that safety of trans/queer folks is abt more than "state-sponsored discrimination". It's also state violence like NYPD murder of Kawaski Trawick, a Black gay man cooking at home when he was killed.

Not a question we should need to ask. Yet here we are. My guess is that SCOTUS will decline to hear this case.
Note that Dunn's innocence isn't in doubt. The question is whether the Constitution permits Missouri to keep him in prison anyway.

Much like the sheriffs who "don't enforce laws" -- this is not a "separation of powers" problem. This is about ensuring racist hierarchies. It also reflects the problem of tweaking a system that tbqh required major reform.

I’ve been talking for a while now about preemption efforts by legislators that target democratically elected prosecutors, mayors and cities. They are often Black officials minority-majority cities and the efforts are meant to shame and diminish.
