Once upon a time if you took a dollar you weren’t supposed and got caught you couldn’t ever play college sports again. NOW you can get drafted, make millions playing in Europe, take two-way contracts in the NBA, play in the G League, and if all that doesn’t work out - you can just decide to go play college basketball.

I watched AAU basketball all weekend. I left with bad news for most players: Too many are building highlight reels before they’re building winning habits. The game ends. They lose. And before they’ve watched film or owned what needs to change… The post is already up. The highlight clip. The posed photo. Everyone wants exposure. But exposure doesn’t fix bad shot selection. It doesn’t make you defend. It doesn’t teach you how to impact winning. The camera should document the work. It shouldn’t become the reason for the work.

Last June, after he arrived in Ann Arbor to begin @umichbball summer workouts, @morezjohnsonJr was invited to @usabjnt U-19 Trials. He was reluctant because he wanted to stay in Ann Arbor to get comfortable. It was pointed out to him that 45% of U-19 kids since ‘09 were drafted in the first round and 64% overall were drafted. He made the team, played, helped USA to Gold & and jumpstarted a great sophomore season.

High school basketball is about sacrifice. Boxing out every possession. Setting hard screens to free up a teammate. Rotating on defense like your life depends on it.
