In the early hours of this morning, I directed our Armed Forces to intercept a shadow fleet oil tanker attempting to pass through the English Channel. This successful operation delivers yet another blow to Russia and reminds those fueling Putin's war in Ukraine that we will not let them hide. I want to thank those involved, including our Armed Forces and law enforcement officers who keep this country safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

I'm sorry to see John Healey go, but I couldn't be happier to see Dan Jarvis appointed as Defence Secretary.
Dan Jarvis MBE MP @DanJarvisMBE has been appointed as Secretary of State for Defence @DefenceHQ.

He turns up with a hard hat for a picture but he really doesn’t have a clue. Labour saved over 500 jobs at Grangemouth with a £120 million package and we’ve just announced £350 million to support the chemicals sector. We’re on the side of the workers - he just pretends to be.
I have just visited the vitally important INEOS plant in Grangemouth. Government policies are threatening its very survival.

On each occasion that I have met Keir going back to being a candidate in 2019 he has been warm, polite, smiled a lot, listened to me and at times been witty. He has a big serious job and I therefore wouldn’t have necessarily expected this to be the case on every encounter but that has been the position and I do not think it’s fair to attack his personality like this as it’s not my experience as a new MP. He recently stayed at a hotel in my constituency and the staff were so excited he sat up with them for a while and chatted despite the fact he was exhausted having flown in from overseas and getting up very early for government business. A little more balance please. 🙏🏽

I’m pushing for a Great Northern Oyster Card with @GoodGrowthFdn and for a Youth Triple Lock, too. Cheaper public transport. Better opportunities. A fair start for every young person. Time to transform the North and give the next generation the hope they deserve.

It's almost as if Reform UK candidates aren't committed to public service...
Reform UK Councillors Gone: Updated James Sidlow has resigned as a councillor. That’s 30 in 3 weeks.

1/ Something very important is being missed in the Peter Murrell coverage. And it explains why Murrell was able to carry on the embezzlement long after he should have been stopped. And why John Swinney cannot hide behind the “victim of criminality” defence.🧵

It's hard to convey to those of you in England, Wales, N.I., and internationally just how bored, sick and weary many of us Scots feel about independence being discussed over and over again. The SNP and Greens have been talking about it for 15 years now. 1/2
The Scottish Parliament has spoken. A significant majority of MSPs has voted to affirm the right of people in Scotland to decide their constitutional future. This is democracy and it must be respected. Scotland’s future must be in Scotland’s hands. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Is this really what the founders of the Scottish Parliament envisaged for Scottish devolution? 2/2

Reform-led Durham council cut off funding to the annual Pride celebrations. So trade unions launched a fundraiser to save it, eventually raising more money than was cut. Which means this year's Pride will be bigger than ever. In the 1980s, the LGBT community raised thousands of pounds to help striking miners and their families. When we stick up for each other, we can achieve anything.

Not content with copying Trump's policies, Reform are now copying Trump's phrases. No-one in the UK talks about 'locker rooms'. We call them changing rooms. To the men who voted Reform earlier this month: is this really the future you want for your daughter/niece/female friends?

Update: A Reform UK spokesman says Kenyon's comments about women driving were "locker room banter made more than a decade ago" "We simply don't care about establishment hit jobs. We fully back Rob and are confident he will be an excellent MP for Makerfield"

I agree, Deborah. It's almost as if the MSM/ring-wing press want us to be miserable and angry. And they certainly don't want us to recognise when we're onto a good thing.
And little or no sign of it in the MSM it’s almost as if we want to be miserable…

Some good news you might have missed this week: Net migration at a 13-year low. UK the fastest-growing G7 economy. NHS waiting lists down half a million. Borrowing at a three-year low. Fuel duty cut extended. Inflation back to 2.8%. The country is moving in the right direction.

None of this happened by accident. Strong growth figures show that this government has the right economic plan. And now, the IMF has upgraded the UK’s growth forecast. This growth is driven by an activist, interventionist government that believes in backing British business.
