The battle over data centers — and who pays to power them — is playing out in communities nationwide. Some states are rolling back tax breaks and considering moratoriums on construction. At POLITICO's Energy Summit, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair @RepGuthrie argued “the genie is out of the bottle” despite valid concerns. And @EPA Administrator @LeeMZeldin told The Conversation host @DashaBurns that "not all data center projects are equal" and they can’t be regulated with one rulebook. But communities have leverage. While Sen. @DaveMcCormickPA (R-Pa.) pinned blame for anti-data center sentiment on China, he told @politico's @jmart that hyperscalers need agreements with communities on energy and water usage, jobs and infrastructure. “You can't jam this down people's throats,” McCormick said.

Senate Energy Subcommittee Chair @SenMcCormickPA addressed the financial strain on American families stemming from rising energy prices. “Inflation is the most insidious,” he told @jmart at our Energy Summit. “The economy is moving in a great direction for creating new jobs and opportunity but I know you’re feeling it.”
