American Beginnings
Post Millone (H/T Rudyard Kipling)
They were bound by their blood,
Though the hour was quite late
With such wrong to make good,
When Americans began to hate.
They had long been aslumber,
Enticed to sleep by the State.
But invaders grew their number,
Then Americans began to hate.
Their voices were measured & calm,
Their eyes were focused, yet irate.
Their rage - a critical balm,
When Americans began to hate.
Barbarians were gladly guided,
Welcomed through the open gate.
Over terror they presided
Then Americans began to hate.
The rumblings spread far online,
Injustice to which all could relate,
Grifters would loudly opine,
Why Americans began to hate?
Their fuse had long been burning,
Its progress none could abate,
Justice, then peace: their yearning,
When Americans began to hate.
Warnings fell on ears long numb,
The Giant? Do not irritate!
The violent storm that's to come,
History will long track the date
That Americans began to hate.
