In 2015, Benjamin Urbellis brought teenage girls onto his boat, the "Naut Guilty," provided them with alcohol, and encouraged them to dive into Boston Harbor. There was no way to get back on board. Those who were still on the boat threw life preservers to the girls and others. As Alexander Williams attempted to operate the boat, he accidentally backed into one of the girls, and the propeller severed her arm. Hours later, long after it had turned dark, the Coast Guard rescued everyone, many of whom had floated far from the boat in the freezing water. On the Coast Guard vessel, Urbellis was drunk and belligerent. I represented one of the girls when she testified before the grand jury. To my knowledge, Urbellis never apologized to the girl who lost her arm.
