Every once in a while you find yourself in the presence of a true performer. They don’t have to fit a template either. In fact some of the best ones can’t be defined, you just have to see them do their thing. That was such a case when I attended THOPfest showcasing @NoaJames. My prior mention of him being a true performer comes across in the intensity that he delivers line for line. A wordsmith to witness. That kind of unforgettable showmanship sticks with you. I began the review for his Album ‘Granny Said’ after his Be Majestic show last Christmas, when I followed up the experience with an album purchase. I realize Granny Said isn’t his most current release, but it was the one with the most recognizable songs I was looking to procure. I don’t do track by track review, I prefer a broader approach when I let myself tell it. But the particular songs I wanted were Buu’s Hungry, (The Inspiration for the A.I. Artwork) and Keep That Shitty Energy To Yourself. What Noa James has in inevitable abundance is Heart. Every track showcases that characteristic above all. Even the voicemail interludes of his Granny Wilson show how deeply he cares. The other aspect that is painstakingly etched into his verses is a sense of spirituality. A recurring theme that elevates every aspect. In the cases of Buu’s Hungry and Slytherin, an appreciation for Pop Culture emerges, and carries with it an infectious vibe that speaks to fandoms young and old. Speaking of Fandoms, I am hoping The Orca himself will hear this Weebs desire for a My Hero Acadamia inspired Gang Orca single to rock to.
