How do we teach American Govโ€™t these days? Everything is unprecedented & EXTREME. Skipping debates, ousting the Speaker for not shutting down the govโ€™t, hitting the campaign trail between criminal indictments, calling for a general to be executedโ€”all in the last 2 weeks #wreckage

I know we're not supposed to be working during the strike but I couldn't resist giving this a quick edit pass
14 Sep 2023
Real Time is coming back, unfortunately, sans writers or writing. It has been five months, and it is time to bring people back to work. The writers have important issues that I sympathize with, and hope they are addressed to their satisfaction, but they are not the only people with issues, problems, and concerns. Despite some assistance from me, much of the staff is struggling mightily. We all were hopeful this would come to an end after Labor Day, but that day has come and gone, and there still seems to be nothing happening. I love my writers, I am one of them, but Iโ€™m not prepared to lose an entire year and see so many below-the-line people suffer so much. I will honor the spirit of the strike by not doing a monologue, desk piece, New Rules or editorial, the written pieces that I am so proud of on Real Time. And Iโ€™ll say it upfront to the audience: the show I will be doing without my writers will not be as good as our normal show, full stop. But the heart of the show is an off-the-cuff panel discussion that aims to cut through the bullshit and predictable partisanship, and that will continue. The show will not disappoint.

"Wear a mask if you are around others at risk for severe COVID-19" Let's be more clear here. Given how crowded New York is, in all practicality that means wear a mask in all public spaces.
23 Aug 2023
COVID-19 cases have been increasing in NYC. Consider wearing a mask, especially in crowded indoor settings and particularly if you are over 65 or have a medical condition that puts you at risk for severe COVID-19, or are around others who are: on.nyc.gov/3YKmpEp

"Are you going to wear a mask forever?" Dude that's not even in the top 1000 things I'm bummed about doing forever. I have to wash my dishes forever. Brush my teeth forever. Do laundry forever. Wearing a respirator forever is nothing.

I saw a headline which declared โ€œCOVID or summer cold? Without free tests, many wonโ€™t knowโ€ and it reminded me of how years ago the idea of cutting back on testing to hide case numbers behind a cloud of โ€œwonโ€™t knowโ€ was considered outrageous.

One way that @APSAtweets can address issues with the conference is to make access to the job portal free for the whole year. Previously job portal access is tied to membership. Given ongoing issues the portal should be free and open to all.

DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC TEXT EXTRUDING MACHINES IN ANY SITUATION WHERE THE CONTENT MATTERS. That absolutely includes health care. The idea that this is beneficial for people who we fail to provide adequate healthcare to is offensive. Repulsive even before you see who's behind it
LLMs shouldn't be used to give medical advice. Who will be held accountable when things inevitably go sideways? Also, this techno-saviorism crap is absolute BS -- helping "economically disadvantaged" people with AI is a myth.
