Before the war: ✔ Strait of Hormuz open
✔ Iran pledged not to build a nuclear weapon under the JCPOA After the war: ✔ Strait of Hormuz open
✔ Iran pledges not to build a nuclear weapon The difference? Billions of dollars spent.
American lives put at risk.
Higher fuel and shipping costs.
A region pushed closer to wider war. Americans were promised victory. They got back to where they started. open.substack.com/pub/drfrus…

HE STARTED THE WAR, you stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid motherfucker.
Donald J Trump is the Peace President and that is an irrefutable fact.
Community note
The United States and Israel have actually started the war with coordinated strikes on Iran on Feb 26, after which Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks. britannica.com/event/2026-Ira…

Dying a bit here. All these provisions being touted as major successes are laid out explicitly in the jcpoa
.@VP: "One of the core parts of the agreement is that the IAEA and the United States are going to help Iran destroy the highly enriched stockpile, and that's something that's spelled out very clearly in the MOU."

Henry Ford was generally a racist and a bad person, but he understood something our current broligarchs have completely forgotten. He said: I have to pay my workers enough to afford the products they’re building. Give them a house, decent schools, reasonable healthcare. If I do that, they’re not descending on my Dearborn mansion with pitchforks while I eat my caviar. We’ve lost that plot entirely. We have broligarchs who want to be trillionaires and they’re missing the lesson that a deeply flawed man figured out a hundred years ago. Capitalism works, but only if people believe the game is worth playing. Right now they don’t and history is very clear about what comes next.

upside of not publicly releasing the terms of the iran deal: harder to say it’s bad if you don’t know what it is.

JD Vance's interview on CNBC this morning made one thing very clear: The Iran 'deal' is still half baked. At best. I went through the transcript of his interview and pulled out the 10 lines you need to see. Full post in next tweet!

Hey @Jim_Jordan and @freedomcaucus just checking in to see if the same idea applies? You wanted to see the side car agreement from Obama and opposed the money he gave Iran. How is that today?

No one actually knows what’s in Trump’s deal with Iran since the administration refuses to release the text, but here’s what I would like to hear Democrats say about what we know based on news reports: ✅Ending the war immediately and reopening the Strait is the best available outcome. Every day Trump delayed would’ve made things worse. ✅Trump lost the war to Iran. Iran now knows it can control the Strait of Hormuz at any time and cripple the global economy. ✅Trump achieved none of his core objectives: Iran still possesses its highly enriched uranium, most of its ballistic missile and drone arsenal, and will almost certainly continue to support proxy groups. ✅The US/Israeli regime change strikes were a disaster for the Iranian people. Iran now has a younger, hard-line Supreme Leader and a more powerful IRGC in place. ✅If the reports about the unfreezing of assets/sanctions relief/reconstruction fund are true, Iran will have access to far more money than it ever got from the JCPOA. ✅Trump could have had a strengthened JCPOA-like deal through negotiations. He was just too impatient to try, and his team was too inexperienced to understand what was on the tabl ✅America did enormous damage to its standing in the world and real harm to poor and developing economies all over the world, which will still face fuel crises and potential famine in the foreseeable future as a direct result of the war. ✅We still don’t know the full scope of the damage to US military bases in the Middle East because the Pentagon is covering them up, but it's safe to estimate this disaster could cost up to $100B in direct costs. ✅Democrats should be skeptical of every claim this administration makes about what's in the deal, and whether Iran follows up. Trump wants this humiliation to go away and change the subject. The result would be an emboldened Iran with de facto control of the Strait. The reason I want to hear Democrats making all of these arguments is because the narrative around this conflict will be set in the coming weeks, and we need to kill off for good this insane, hawkish neocon/FDD worldview that the US can bomb its way to peace.

MAGA won’t accept that Trump made a colossal error. And Vance is widely disliked. So he’s a convenient fall guy for when we’re forced to bribe Iran into opening the Strait. What a clown show...
Graham explicitly putting the onus of this thing on Vance.

Um: preamble to 2015 JCPOA that Trump tore up: "Iran reaffirms that under no circumstances will Iran ever seek, develop, or acquire any nuclear weapons." Literally the same.
Pretty solid that "Iran reaffirms that under no circumstances will Iran ever seek, develop or acquire any nuclear weapons." documentcloud.org/documents/…

FYI Iran is now rich and will control the strait while selling their oil on the open market. I was critical of Obamas deal, but this makes that look amazing in comparison. Trump F’ed it all up then got bored, but he’s 80. He won’t have to live with the consequences for long. We will
The President has put our country first and negotiated a peace deal that will keep us safe and prevent Iran from ever getting a nuclear weapon. From the very beginning, @POTUS maximized our leverage, limited casualties, and brought credible military force to ensure the best possible outcome. This is one hell of a way to celebrate a birthday. Congratulations, Mr. President. x.com/whitehouse/status/2066…
