I entered UofC undergrad in 1999 and couldn't agree more about Hugo's enormously positive impact on the institution, despite the backlash he faced. He was also a truly kind person and mentor ( brilliant economist ). Grateful for my time at UofC and esp learning from Hugo.
Hugo Sonnenschein, RIP. Hugo was the most important president of the U of Chicago since Hutchins. It is difficult to imagine how different this place was in the 1980s.

Well said! 1. It's a privilege to be mentored like this; even better to contribute to science at the same time. 2. I call BS on anybody who claims they had no idea this program would be evaluated. 3. For people who think polishing up a paper is "wasted" effort, sorry not sorry.

A recent interview highlighting joint work with my COVID team: @ElizaForsythe @fabolange and David wiczer.
“The shutdowns are not what have been driving the economic collapse; it’s the global pandemic," says Rochester economist Lisa Kahn (@ProfLisaBKahn), who shares her insights on the current recession. | uofr.us/396s6UY

#EconTwitter: for teaching, your favorite examples of the relevance of opportunity cost, or people getting decisions wrong by ignoring opportunity cost? Bonus points if there is a pop culture reference.

One of my favs: On season 5 of Grey's Anatomy, McDreamy accidentally kills someone in surgery and decides it would be better for the world if he stopped operating. But later he realizes he is a world-leading brain surgeon so NOT operating cost more lives than operating.

Naturally 😜
Replying to @mattkahn1966
We have fallen two ranks; DellaVigna/Malmendier rank ahead of us. Blau and Kahn rank ahead of us. We have sank to #11.

Great news! But by my calc, NYS has 1.4 million residents in the top priority group (healthcare workers and nursing home staff and residents). How will we choose who gets vaccinated and when is the rest coming?
New York’s first delivery of the Pfizer vaccine will be enough for 170,000 New Yorkers. We expect, if all safety & efficacy approvals are granted, to receive these doses on December 15.
We are hiring a postdoc! Come be my colleague at University of Rochester. Job market candidates (and students looking to delay the market) in LABOR please apply: aeaweb.org/joe/listing.php?J… #EconTwitter

Wait a minute. What if it's all a lie to take attention away from the horrible jobs report?

UI payments were instrumental in preventing widening inequality and enabling lower income people to maintain their spending. Way to go @ElizaForsythe and @CortesEcon !!!

Way to go Fran Blau and all the rest!
At the @AEA’s 1971 annual meeting, a group of female Yale graduate students plastered signs calling for women economists to meet later. The outcome of this meeting was @CSWEP and increased support for female economists. Full story economics.yale.edu/news/youn…
