Hosted the Grannies Football Federation Team from Kilome for a warm-up match in Konza. The remarkable team, through their “Kick a Ball for Health” programme, continues to demonstrate that age is no barrier to active living, fitness, and community engagement. The match was not only an exciting sporting event but also a powerful reminder of the importance of regular physical activity in promoting health and well-being among senior citizens. The grannies inspire us all with their energy, determination, and commitment to healthy lifestyles. We commend the team for championing active ageing and using sports as a platform to enhance physical health, social inclusion, and mental wellness. We wish them every success in their upcoming competitions and look forward to supporting similar initiatives that promote healthy and vibrant communities.

Knowledge-based economic development is fundamentally grounded in quality and relevant education, skills development, research, and innovation because these elements create the human and intellectual capital necessary for economic transformation. Countries that invest well in education systems, research institutions, and innovation ecosystems are better positioned to enhance productivity, create jobs, attract investment, and achieve sustainable development. As the global economy becomes increasingly driven by knowledge and technology, building strong foundations in education, skills, research, and development is essential for national competitiveness and sustainable development.

Today, I had the pleasure of hosting the Board and Management of Makueni County Referral Hospital, led by the Chairman, Rt. Rev. Joseph Kanuku, for discussions on areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration. Our engagement focused on opportunities for capacity building, skills development, and advancing research in health technologies. We explored how partnerships between academic and research institutions and the healthcare sector can strengthen innovation, improve service delivery, and contribute to the development of locally relevant solutions to health challenges. Such collaborations are essential in building a robust health ecosystem, fostering research excellence, and nurturing the human capital needed to drive transformative healthcare outcomes for our communities and the nation.

Held a meeting with the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) from Mukaa Sub-County/Kilome in Makueni County for a tour of Konza and an engagement session at @Kenya_aist . Led by the Deputy County Commissioner, Charles Igiha, the delegation was briefed on the strategic focus areas of Kenya-AIST and the key activities currently underway to advance science, technology, innovation, and research. We also held productive discussions on the progress of flagship projects within Konza, including the Affordable Housing Programme and the Export Processing Zone (EPZ), which continue to play a critical role in driving industrialization, job creation, and sustainable socio-economic development.
