Let’s clear up some of this nonsense before it spreads too far.
The idea that “deporting every illegal migrant” would suddenly free up a million jobs, 200,000 homes, and save £2 billion from the NHS isn’t just wrong, it’s economically illiterate.
First off, the UK doesn’t even have a million illegal migrants working. Estimates vary, but the ONS and Migration Observatory put the likely number somewhere between 300,000 and 600,000 and many of them are in essential roles that most Britons simply don’t apply for, from agriculture to care work.
Second, migrants don’t “occupy” houses that would magically go to British citizens. Most rent privately, often in shared or poor conditions, and removing them wouldn’t suddenly create affordable homes for others. The housing crisis exists because of decades of underbuilding, not migration.
Third, the NHS doesn’t spend £2 billion on illegal migrants. In fact, migrants, legal or otherwise are net contributors to the NHS and wider economy. Health tourism is a tiny fraction of total costs.
And as for crime? Every serious study shows no link between higher immigration and higher crime rates. In some areas, crime even drops as migrant populations rise.
It’s fine to debate immigration policy. But let’s do it based on facts, and not fantasy.
