Today Butte Creek is filled with turbid waters apparently due to a canal failure. The normally crystal clear water has about 1 in (2 cm) visibility as noted in the transparency tube. Sad to see on a spring run Chinook salmon stream. Underscores needs for #30x30 @CalNatResources

I spent this past week in DC working on conservation issues. The US, and much of the world would benefit from honoring and reciprocally stewarding nature with an inter-generational mindset, and recognize #earthdayiseveryday. I find resonance in this 1910 Theodore Roosevelt quote-

It is great to have some aquifer recharge with all of this snow. The heavy weight has crushed brush (including some of my favorite manzanitas), broken branches, and toppled trees. Will need to do some cleanup to remove the newly added fuels. Yet another fire/water relationship.

Nearly one year to date I revisited a willow wattle wall demo my class completed last December (first photo). Live stakes are growing well (second photo), and the wall is recruiting gravel and woody debris. Beaver has also been active in the area (third photo). #workingwithnature
