Happy Friday, California. ☀ The weekend is here. Whether you're heading to the lake, the mountains, the campground, or staying local, keep safety part of the plan. Dry grass, warm temperatures, and a single spark can quickly cause a wildfire. Enjoy the weekend. Make smart choices. Help keep California fire safe. 📷 @FresnoCoFire #WildfireAwareness #OutdoorSafety #Outdoors #WildfirePrevention #California

California State Parks Week is underway! Yesterday Secretary @WadeCrowfoot and our partners were at Great Valley Grasslands State Park to celebrate a project connecting the San Joaquin River to the historic floodplain. Now, when the river floods, more of the water goes into the state park and creates a seasonal wetland, helping to reduce downriver flood risk on communities, restore wetland habitat, and restore the groundwater basins in the Central Valley. We're building water infrastructure that works with nature, not against nature.

On Monday, the Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria announced the acquisition of 450 acres of ancestral land in Butte County, made possible through our Tribal Nature-Based Solutions Program. As usual, the latest from this right-wing think tank masquerading as investigative journalism is missing the facts (that we provided them). FACT: The Newsom administration has taken more action than any Governor in history to protect CA from wildfire - both in prevention and response. FACT: 206 projects spanning over 35k acres are already underway or completed. An additional 60k acres of work will start in the coming months. FACT: All projects approved for streamlining must begin work by October and be completed within two years of starting. Including our full response here as it was conveniently left out (once again).
EXCLUSIVE: Since last year, Gavin Newsom has "fast-tracked" nearly 100,000 acres of land for fire-management work. But we have obtained internal documents showing that his administration has only completed projects on 798 acres—less than 1 percent. city-journal.org/article/cal…

🚩 UPDATE: The Red Flag Warning has been expanded to include portions of the Bay Area. Critical fire weather conditions are expected through Thursday. Stay prepared, enable emergency alerts, and monitor the latest information from the National Weather Service.
🚩 RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT 🚩 Critical fire weather is expected across portions of the northern Sacramento Valley from Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon. Strong north winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation will create conditions where any new fire could spread quickly. Be ready, not reactive. Pack a go bag, make sure emergency alerts are enabled, and take time to prepare your home and family in case an evacuation becomes necessary. Stay informed, stay prepared, and stay aware. #RedFlagWarning #ReadyForWildfire #CALFIRE #WildfireSafety #CAwx

About 95% of California wildfires are started by people, often without realizing it. By changing our behavior, especially during hot, dry, or windy conditions, we can stop wildfires before they start. Here's how you can help prevent wildfires: 🔧 Inspect equipment before outdoor work—metal on metal creates sparks 🌾 Skip mowing dry grass in the afternoon heat—friction alone can ignite it ⛓ Keep trailer chains off the ground—sparks fly when metal hits pavement 🔥 Never leave campfires, BBQs, or power tools unattended in dry conditions Every one of us can help stop a wildfire before it starts. Do your part. #ReadyForWildfire #CALFIRE #OneLessSpark #DoYourPart #Preparedness

This week, Secretary Wade Crowfoot and Deputy Secretary for Federal Affairs Sara Aminzadeh traveled to Washington, D.C. for a slew of meetings with members of Congress and federal agencies. As much as we disagree with many of the decisions coming out of the federal administration, it's really important to come together and identify where we can work together to deliver for California's people and natural resources.

🌲 When we talk about forest health, we mean ALL of it. Grasslands, wetlands, shrublands, and desert ecosystems are all part of the picture. In California, these are all “forests,” and they all require science-based management and care. CAL FIRE protects more than 31 million acres of California’s diverse wildlands. That includes the dense timber forests most people picture, but it also includes every other landscape that shapes fire behavior and community safety across the state. 🌎 This World Environment Day, we’re celebrating the full variety of California’s forests. Forest health is the foundation of everything we do. #WorldEnvironmentDay #ForestHealth #CALFIRE #WildfirePrevention #HealthyLandscapes

While the federal government forces American taxpayers to subsidize energy sources of the past, California is building the energy systems of the future. California ended its last coal power contract in 2024 and we're not going back to a fuel that pollutes our skies, threatens public health, and costs more than clean alternatives. Under @CAgovernor 's administration, we've expanded battery storage, modernized the grid, and accelerated clean energy projects. The results: more reliable energy, cleaner air, good-paying jobs, and a stronger economy. California will continue advancing solutions that move our state forward.
