In 1928, Alexander Fleming discovered the green mould he was working with produced a substance that could kill many common bacteria that infect humans. He called this new, exciting substance "mould juice". Only after a couple of months, on 7 March 1929, did he name it penicillin.

Linus Pauling is the only person to have received two unshared Nobel Prizes - in chemistry and peace.
He used quantum mechanics to understand and describe chemical bonding. Later he campaigned vehemently against nuclear weapons and spearheaded a petition to ban nuclear testing.

American mathematician John Nash in reflective mood in his office @Princeton University, #OTD in 2001. A few months later, scenes from a film about his life - 'A Beautiful Mind' with @russellcrowe - were filmed on the campus. Nash received the 1994 Prize in Economic Sciences.
