In lieu of our usual Control Point (CP) Sundays edition this morning, we have an updated Transformative Rail Vision Map ready (google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid…), including MTL-TOR HFR, Ethan Allen to BUR, Vermonter to MTL & a couple glaring gaps: Big Sky Explorer to Sandpoint & KNX-CHT.

There is a breed of the particularly pathetic who seek to convince people they’re miserable.
Hot take: NYC is the most overrated city in the world and people destroy their lives attempting to live there when they really belong (and would be happier) in a much smaller city.

Happy Tuesday, Cleveland! This snapshot of Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest steam locomotive, chugging through The Land on Monday is too cool not to share 🤩 The train will be back in the area at the end of the month 🚂 Photo: russ_lang_photography on Instagram

For my Buffalo & WNY followers, here’s estimated times for UP 4014 coming up the lakeshore. Blasdel at Lake Ave might be the most interesting RR location but will likely be crowded. If I were there, I’d go further out to Lake View or Mt Vernon, plus likely higher speed.

I know, 30 years. Canada does basic transit way better than the U.S., but its large-scale infrastructure programs are just as stodgy and overburdened as ours.'

I agree with @FortWayneRails that I should have noted our collective role in instructing those out observing trains of safe habits near railroads. But two people have been killed since 2018 by taking selfies trackside how many more by trespassing or running crossings in cars?

My frustration at cavalier behavior near railroad tracks is both emotional and connected to people dying & putting others at risk unnecessarily. And after that is putting future excursions at risk because of the liability risks associated with careless spectators.

People like this lady in pink are going to ruin this for everyone. Get off the tracks and back the #### up! Engage your frontal cortex, grow some situational awareness and worry about how your photo looks later.

If you’re heading out to see UP 4014 on Norfolk Southern territory over the next few weeks, remember: 1) step back. And then take another step back. 2) if you’re videoing, hold your device steady. The trains moves, not you.

You want to come to New Orleans. If you’ve never been, you really want to come to New Orleans. The humidity right now is stupid. But the hotel rates in the summer are stupid cheap. This is our view from Royal & St Philip Sts. You can take 4 different Amtrak routes here. 🌙⚜️🏙️🌅
