A Major Statement. A Familiar Face. Two More Years.
Weโre delighted to welcome Matty Douglas back to Workington AFC on a two-year deal.
Matty returns to the Reds for a second spell following his time in Scotland with Annan Athletic and Queen of the South, where he finished last season as club captain.
A commanding defender, proven leader and a player who already understands the standards and expectations of this football club, Matty brings experience, quality and character in abundance.
Securing a player of Mattyโs calibre is a significant boost ahead of the new season, but his decision to commit to the club for the next two years makes this an even bigger moment. His return is a real statement of intent and a clear sign of the ambition and direction of the football club.
Weโre absolutely over the moon to have him back in red.

Workington AFC are delighted to confirm the return of last seasonโs captain Brad Carroll following his departure from Bury FC.
Since arriving on loan during the second half of last season, Brad made an instant impact both on and off the pitch and played a huge role in helping drive the club towards survival.
His leadership, quality and commitment quickly made him a fansโ favourite, and weโre thrilled to see him back where he belongs.

After eleven unforgettable seasons in red, club captain and fansโ favourite David Symington has announced his retirement from football.
From making his debut during the 2014/15 season to becoming one of the most influential players of a generation at Workington AFC, Dav leaves behind a legacy that will take some replacing.
Across 296 starts and 54 substitute appearances, he scored an incredible 113 competitive goals for the Reds โ alongside a further 19 goals in 56 non-competitive appearances. Numbers that only tell part of the story.
A talisman on the pitch, a leader in the dressing room, and one of the most respected figures around the football club, Dav has played a huge role in so many memorable moments across the last decade.
Whether it was spectacular goals, big performances in important moments, or simply the standards he set every single day around the club, he represented Workington AFC with pride, passion and commitment throughout.
Football clubs are built on people as much as players โ and Dav has been a massive part of this club both on and off the pitch.
Everyone at Workington AFC would like to thank Dav for everything he has given to the club and wish him and his family nothing but the very best for the future.
