Air pollution may be doing more harm to the heart than we once thought. A large, decade-long study using cardiac CT found that long-term exposure to common urban pollutants at even "moderate" levels is linked to more advanced coronary artery disease, including greater plaque buildup and higher likelihood of obstructive disease. As imaging continues to reveal the hidden impact of environmental exposures, improving air quality could play a critical role in preventing heart disease. AI continues to show promise in breast imaging. A new Radiology study found that commercially available AI systems could detect subtle mammographic changes linked to future breast cancer up to six years before diagnosis in some patients. Researchers say AI-CAD scores may help radiologists identify early signs of potential cancer and better determine which patients could benefit from closer vigilance. As Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month puts added focus on earlier, more accurate diagnosis, new research suggests AI-based MRI tools can still miss Alzheimer's disease, especially in patients whose scans appear less typical despite underlying pathology. The key takeaway: a negative MRI-based CAD result should not automatically rule out follow-up biomarker testing. Read more about e implications for imaging, diagnosis and future AI development. Although prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men, most patients do not experience aggressive disease. To help determine who needs treatment and who can be safely monitored, active surveillance (AS) with MRI has emerged as a strategy for managing low-risk disease.
In a recent article in @RadioGraphics, authors led by Arthur Ogata, MD, University of São Paulo, and Giorgio Brembilla, MD, Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Italy, discuss the foundations, key updates and practical applications of PRECISE version 2. They also review prostate anatomy, histologic classification and disease staging.
