DMK functionaries in Chennai are reportedly blaming former ministers Sekar Babu and Ma. Subramanian for the party’s defeat in the capital. According to party insiders, grassroots cadres had repeatedly warned that the political mood in Chennai was turning against the DMK, but those concerns allegedly never reached the leadership. They claim that Sekar Babu, who had complete control over Kolathur, handled the constituency too casually, contributing to M. K. Stalin’s defeat. Sources also allege that his style of functioning alienated many party workers in North Chennai. TVK’s senior-most minister Sengottaiyan has reportedly been left deeply frustrated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay. Sengottaiyan was said to be eagerly expecting one among the Public Works, Rural Development, or Municipal Administration portfolios. However, Vijay first allotted him the Finance Department, which reportedly came as a shock. After he expressed his dissatisfaction, the portfolio was changed to Revenue and Disaster Management during the cabinet expansion. Even then, he was deeply disappointed that he did not get the department he had sought. The key portfolios he wanted have now gone to Chief Minister Vijay and ministers Anand and Aadhav, making it virtually impossible for him to secure them in the future. Meanwhile, his demand to accommodate his supporters in the cabinet was reportedly ignored. The ministerial seniority list has further upset his camp, with Arunraj placed fourth and Sengottaiyan fifth. In the announcement of district-wise ministerial responsibilities, Anand and Aadhav were assigned two districts each, while Sengottaiyan was allotted only Erode district. ‘Sengottaiyan is not being given importance, his supporters are being sidelined, and he is not even able to immediately reach Vijay and speak to him whenever he wishes. DMK insiders say that with M.K. Stalin losing Kolathur, the responsibility of leading the opposition has fallen on Udhayanidhi Stalin. At a time when youth support has propelled TVK to power, the challenge before him is to bring young voters back to the DMK fold.  Senior leaders close to the DMK leadership reportedly feel that Udhayanidhi's tendency to remain inaccessible, his perceived ego clashes, and his lack of engagement with senior leaders and cadre need to change if he is to succeed in his new role.  According to party sources, Udhayanidhi rarely meets party functionaries or cadre. They point out that even many DMK MLAs find it difficult to reach him, arguing that such inaccessibility does not suit the role of an Opposition Leader. Sources say Udhayanidhi must move past his reported ego clashes with senior DMK leaders, including Sabareesan, Kanimozhi, E.V. Velu, K.N. Nehru, and Sekar Babu. They believe greater unity within the leadership would benefit both the party and Udhayanidhi's political growth.  With TVK now in power and law-and-order issues becoming a major political talking point, DMK leaders feel Udhayanidhi cannot afford to retreat into a passive role. As TVK was reportedly using social media very effectively, many within the DMK are now asking: What was the DMK IT wing doing during the election? According to sources, some senior DMK leaders met Stalin and complained that the party's poor performance was partly due to the weak functioning of IT Wing Secretary TRB Rajaa. They reportedly asked the leadership to review the issue and improve the party’s social media strategy. Sources say that after becoming Industries Minister, TRB Rajaa was busy handling both his ministerial duties and his Mannargudi constituency, resulting in less focus on the IT wing during the election campaign. They also point out that DMK has one of the largest IT wing structures among political parties, with a state secretary, around 20 deputy secretaries, and district-level teams. However, insiders claim that many of these office-bearers are not active on social media, and most are unfamiliar with how platforms like Instagram and its algorithm work. Sources further say that Stalin was upset after hearing these complaints against TRB Rajaa.
