Saturday morning coffee and a read: Come Aug. 4, 60,000 parcels around LRT, BRT and MAX BRT Stations will be downzoned, despite transit zones being the widely suggested place to put more density. There is still no replacement plan. #yyc #calgary #yyccc buff.ly/QLBFhFm

Live footage of alignments being drawn up by people who refuse to take expert advice.
The story continues: Mayor Farkas floats the idea of extending the Green Line further south, not going as far into downtown (with the current line), and then seeking a fed-only deal for an underground downtown line. #yyc #calgary #yyccc buff.ly/LyZbt8K

You know what this project needs? More political interference. That'll surely get it back on track.🙃

Surprise! Mayor @JeromyYYC throws urgent transit needs North of the Bow under the wheels of a train to UCP South #yyc by "pushing even further south into suburban Calgary" youtube.com/watch?v=-el4eScx… - after just 24 hrs ago pledging his deep support for Green Line North!! #yyccc

Something smells here. As a North Calgary resident, I'll believe this UCP provincial govt supports bringing a train up Centre Street to AB NDP ridings instead of further south to deep UCP territory when a bridge over the Bow is under construction. #ableg #yyccc

As far as I can tell, it's mainly gone into telling pedestrians "it's their responsibility too" when they get hit using a marked crosswalk
NEW: City administration has released a progress update on a $7.55M traffic and pedestrian safety investment package approved by Calgary city council late last year. Here's where that money is going:

I get your point, but even the fastest Asian nations can’t do everything faster than 5 years and usually more like 5-10 years, from planning to operation. But 30 years is indeed laughable.

Nobody should be happy about politicking this project further. The majority of Calgarians were fine with what was being proposed. Not to mention, this has already been studied numerous times. #yyc #yyccc
Today I was happy to support a motion put forward by Cllr. McLean that would have other options for a downtown Green Line alignment put on the table. This is a step towards putting the Green Line back on track for the north, where we know neighbours want transit service.

It is kind of crazy that Alberta has a rail loving premier and kind of has to go it alone on high speed rail

Important read for anybody in a specific province looking for private interests in a provincial rail network. @ABDanielleSmith @DevinDVote
The International Union of Railways has released a report confirming what we have been saying for years: transferring revenue risk to the private sector simply doesn't work, and the public is left to eat the cost anyway. 🧵 1/4 (Paywall) buff.ly/ne8fOvS

That will surely make this cheaper and less risky. Remember how this alignment was chosen to save the green line? #yyc #yycccc
NEW: Calgary city councillors are eyeing alternate alignments options for the Green Line through the downtown core as part of a city functional study on an elevated line. Ward 5 Coun. Raj Dhaliwal voted against.

On the downtown alignment, Calgarians as a whole are supportive of an elevated alignment, but there's strong opposition from those living/working downtown.

Alberta has released its passenger rail masterplan. While promising, the prospect of tangible progress seems to be waning as the province has announced what amounts to 3 more years of "engagement with industry" and planning. Find it here: alberta.ca/passenger-rail

Mayor @JeromyYYC & many on #yyccc have said they want to get back to the basics. Elevated up 2nd St SW may not be pretty or perfect but it accomplishes the most basic function of transit: get people to where they need to go. Apparently @DanWMcLean thinks that spot's Olympic Plaza
