📢PhD opportunity📢We have a fully-funded 3-year PhD position available for an October 2024 start, working with myself, @gailmcconnell , and @NMIS_group on developing active 3D-printed optics for imaging and microscopy. findaphd.com/phds/project/de…
The project follows on from recent work creating low cost 3D-printed optics for microscopy and will look at integrating adaptive functionalities directly into new lens designs for microscopy, imaging and optical sensing. Moving things to a whole new level from ⬇️
The PhD aligns with a recently funded BBSRC project and the student will work with the teams at Strathclyde and NMIS.
Unfortunately the funding limitations are for UK applicants (or EU applicants with pre-settled/settled status) only. Please share and get in touch if interested.
🚨 Preprint alert! 🚨
We made 3D printed lenses with compatible optical performance of glass lenses!
In a double-whammy, check out the 2nd preprint using printed lenses in imaging.
Check the preprints & scroll down to see some lenses!

Interested in state-of-the-art imaging to better understand how light shapes plant growth? Come join our NorthWestBio Doctoral Training Partnership as a PhD student (with John Christie, Glasgow; Ralf Bauer, Strathclyde): gla.ac.uk/colleges/mvls/grad…. Closing date 17/03/2023.
The PhD will evaluate model plant systems to localise directional growth at a cellular level and how dynamic changes in key cell signalling components contribute to it. And they will adapt portable and affordable super-resolution microscopy systems to push their boundaries ...
For more information about the project and application process see @NorthWestBio1 page: gla.ac.uk/colleges/mvls/grad…. Please also reach out to @photoadduct or myself for any extra information or questions. Closing date is 17/03/2023.
Exciting #PhD opportunity, funded by @BBSRC through @NorthWestBio1 DTP: Join @LindaOyama , Dr Suzie Hingley-Wilson, and me to work on unravelling antimicrobial resistance in tuberculosis strains using affordable super-resolution microscopy @UniStrathclyde@Queens_Belfast ...
The PhD candidate will learn how to develop antimicrobial peptides for treatment of tuberculosis strains and evaluate their efficacy. They will also push affordable super-resolution microscopy to its limits and work on new protocols to image the antimicrobial interactions ...
More information about the project and application process is at the @NorthWestBio1 page: tinyurl.com/52kjavta. Please reach out to @LindaOyama or myself for any extra information or questions
