If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.– Antoine de Saint Exupery

Web map rendering software can benefit from this. I think.
My dear front-end developers (and anyone who’s interested in the future of interfaces): I have crawled through depths of hell to bring you, for the foreseeable years, one of the more important foundational pieces of UI engineering (if not in implementation then certainly at least in concept): Fast, accurate and comprehensive userland text measurement algorithm in pure TypeScript, usable for laying out entire web pages without CSS, bypassing DOM measurements and reflow

In general.. finally a library for what has been problem for a long time.

Recently took over from the agent for a complicated piece.. made so many mistakes, so much for nostalgia of perfect code. It is not that I wouldn't make mistakes before, but the review to find the mistakes was manageable. The speed at which agents write now makes this part hard.
It seems that with the advent of AI coding people have completely forgotten that human authored code suffered badly from quality degradation. That is why we coined the term "technical debt" and why companies like Meta incentivized "Better Engineering" as part of their performance review cycle. But suddenly, just like # of times of sex per week, IQ, ...., many humans now believe their code quality is higher than average. Sorry to disturb your dreams folks, but your code sucks louder than a jet-engine. The real opportunity here is to play the movie below in reverse. You *have* an unhealthy codebase but you use agents as some kind of white blood cells to continuously fight the disease and clean shit up. This is so fucking obvious, I keep wondering if I live in some alternate universe full of midwits and I am the only reasonable person around.

The thing that hurt the ego was that I let the agent look at the code for a different problem and it showed me all the stupid things I did.

Made it to @spatialthoughts bookmarks :). Anyway, this one is based on your blog.. google buildings 2023 dataset augmented with heights - indianopenmaps.com/viewer#so…

Claude Code helped me with a long-overdue personal project to organize my bookmarks into a searchable site. It fetched info, organized it and made a nice Mkdocs website and push it on Github! Couldn't have imagined it possible just a few months ago! spatialthoughts.github.io/no…

We are living in a post-judicial coup India.
Mar 11
The Supreme Court has directed the Centre and all State governments along with all institutions receiving public funds, either partially or fully, to dissociate the chairperson of NCERT social science curriculum, Professor Michel Denino and his two other associate members who were behind the Sub-chapter in part 2 of the Class 8 NCERT Social Science textbook 'Corruption in the Judiciary', in any manner for the purpose of preparation of curriculum or finalisation of text book for the next generation. A bench led by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant also directed all of the aforesaid authorities to disassociate Professor Denino, along with his team, from the preparation and inclusion of the Chapter, from rendering any service in any institution, which would mean payment to them from public funds. “At the outset we have no reason to doubt that professor Michel Danino along with Ms Diwakar and Mr Alok Prasanna Kumar either does not reasonable knowledge about Indian judiciary or they deliberately knowingly misrepresented the facts in order to project a negative image of Indian judiciary before students of Class 8 who are at an impressionable age. There is no reason as to why such persons be associated in any manner with preparation of curriculum or finalisation of text book for the next generation. We direct union, all states, all institutions recieving state funds, to disassociate them from rendering any service which would mean payment to them from public funds”, the Court noted.

Damn it.. I am unhappy about this.. I just started a data migration today because duckdb support for querying GEOMETRY type in the current version was lacking and then they decide to release the version with support for it today. :(

I sometimes wonder if they even have an audit trail of who is changing what.
The first time I looked at the govt. digital land record system, it was obvious it would create this effect. One simple reason - Everyone has DB write access except the property owner, who does not even have read access.

I am waiting for a Mickens piece on the current AI hysteria. Miss his writing.
Fun fact: Computer security has a famous 2014 paper on how dramatically different assumptions and practices must be when dealing with the most motivated attacker in the world, who is after -YOU-. This is, -literally-, known "Mossad vs not-Mossad." Note the phone replacement.

Did they seriously block Let's Encrypt.. who are the clowns incharge of this?
Replying to @Squeal
MTNL’s consumer blocklist appears to derive from filtering policies meant for government offices. Services such as Telegram, Dropbox, Discord, and even Slack, are blocked.

I donno.. even if it is meant for only government offices.. seems rather short sighted.

Excited to share “Poisoned Wells,” which presents the largest point-in-time study of website blocking in India to date. I tested the blocking of 294 million apex domains across six Indian ISPs, sending 1.76 billion DNS queries in total.
