India's Soybean Success: Developing Biotechnology Capacity!! Soybean is among the most important oil crops in India, accounting for 34% area under oil crops, 23% area under domestic vegetable oil, and more than 50% of oilcake/meal production. Professor Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog, in his article; Lessons from Soybean; highlighted that Soybean, which occupies the largest area among oil crops in India as well as the world, offers interesting lessons and represents a unique case of agricultural diversification and transformation through exotic germplasm, especially in rainfed agriculture. In India, Soybean output significantly increased from 130,000 tonnes in mid-1970s to 13.6 Million tonnes in 2021-22. The success of Soybean in large-scale area diversification, even in the absence of any yield gain, offers various useful lessons and insights. Indian agriculture witnessed unprecedent growth during last decade. Farm income also benefited from continuous increase in real prices of farm output. This period can be called Golden decade of Indian agriculture. My views in the Mint, 3 April, 2025 at: lnkd.in/guxd5_gF

After new US tariff our competitors in US market will face much higher tariff than us. We require short term and medium term strategy to face the emerging situation in agri trade. My views in Business Standard and Economic Times: lnkd.in/gtER3S_D lnkd.in/gGnvwyRS

#Budget2023 has made a timely & serious attempt to mainstream #millets and increase its consumption as well as production in ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ & the ๐ŸŒ. It has put millets on a respectable pedestal by designating them as #ShreeAnna: Member @Ramesh_ChandDr #PolicyPost timesofindia.indiatimes.com/โ€ฆ

40% of the total millet production in the world is produced in India. Therefore, it will be integral to increase the per-capita production and consumption of millets by focusing on R&D in the country and at the local level: Member @Ramesh_ChandDr #InternationalYearOfMillets2023
