Russia's tank reserve is almost overNew satellite images reveal that the Kremlin's vast stockpile of Soviet tanks has shrunk dramatically. Of the over 7,300 tanks that were in stock before the 2022 invasion, only about 81 practically usable tanks now remain, according to OSINT analysis. Over 60% of the stockpile has already been looted. What remains are mostly old rusty T-54/55 and T-62 from the 1950s-70s that have been sitting outside for decades without maintenance. Lieutenant Colonel Palle Ydstebø (Norwegian Military Academy):
"The Soviet army is scorched." Russia has already lost over 4,400 tanks (confirmed), and the new ones that are coming are mostly refurbished scrap from the past. They have been forced to switch to motorcycles, infiltration and small groups instead of large armored attacks. It is no longer a question of whether Russia has a reserve - it is a question of how long it will last.
