Mock Draft Time! 26 days until the 2026 MLB Draft, here's what I've got...
I'm more comfortable calling Lackey, who is a unicorn, the best player in this draft, but it could go either way at 1. The next few picks sort themselves out. Roch and Emerson are in a clear top 3 with Lackey.
Lombard and Booth could end up being interchangeable in the top 5. I prefer Booth, but think the Giants are more likely to go with Lombard.
With the top 3 prep hitters off the board, the Royals opt for the best pitching in the draft in Flora. Helfrick goes early to the Orioles (probably his ceiling), also like Burress/Hacopian there. Burress slides in at 8 but could go anywhere after 2.
Braves are tough. With Townsend question marks and Burress gone, they grab the best prep pitcher in the class. Hacopian to the Rockies is a nice match. Bell to the Nats makes sense in my head, and Curiel to the Angels is so obvious it probably won't happen.
I like Gracia at 13 lots. I think a lot of teams in the 10-20 range will covet him. Grindlinger is about as fun a prospect as you'll get, and Miami is tied to him. Arizona at 15 is tough, but a college outfielder makes the most sense in this spot. Strosnider is still being underrated, I think?
Lebron was the hardest guy to mock. I don't like him in the top 20, but one of the teams 15-20 is going to take the risk. Rangers have tons of options. Dietz will be a hot commodity in the teens as a money-saving upside move for Houston. Townsend might be the best pitcher in the class (?), and the Reds likely go with a college arm.
Tegan Kuhns at 19 was stolen from
@JoeDoyleMiLB because I couldn't figure out who to place there. The run on college arms continues with Cameron Flukey to the Red Sox. They'll like his release traits.
Bo Lowrance is a hard man to mock, and the Padres have lots of options at 21, but the upside of Lowrance wins out. Trevor Condon feels like a steal at 22, clearly the best prep hitter left at that point. Ace Reese at 23 is safe, but college OF is firmly in play.
Cole Carlon has a lot of traits the Mariners love. Will Yow is a surprise to see here, but the Brewers are wildcards, and Yow is tooled up and will save them money. Eric Becker to ATL is safe after taking Gio Rojas at 9.
The Mets could go college bat or arm here, I lean arm with Reddemann and Peterson still available. Taj Marchand is a more expensive buy for the Astros at 28 and has hit tool safety. Daniel Jackson feels like a Giants guy, and Zion Rose is one of a few prep OFers the Royals could target at 30.
