IMF's relationship with African countries.
Jun 14
JUST IN: 🇳🇬 IMF has told the Nigerian government to impose fuel and telecom taxes on Nigerians, to increase government revenue. Nigeria is currently the number 1 country with the lowest quality of life.

The Nigerian government has done something impressive. They have convinced millions of people that struggling to eat, struggling to pay rent and struggling to survive is a personal failure instead of an economic one. That's genius.

Call for help. My mum was hit with a stroke in may 2024. Since then our lives haven't remained the same. My family have spent all our savings yet her condition hasn't changed. She has severe BP challenge, she has diabetes. Which has gone on to take a toll on her kidneys.

Bro, that man stole 210 trillion. Not million. Not billion. Trillion😭 Not 1 trillion. Not 10 trillion. Not even 100 trillion. 210 trillion! There is hardly any sector of Nigeria’s economy you could invest that kind of money in and not see massive, transformative change. Education, healthcare, power, infrastructure, agriculture, every single sector would feel the impact like mad. Yet person papa embezzled that amount only am. The craziest part is that no individual could ever reasonably spend that kind of money in a lifetime. It’s wealth beyond comprehension, while millions of us average Nigerians struggle daily to afford basic necessities. God will punish all of you. Every single one of you.

If I wanted to maintain my current standard of living, but in Nigeria, it would cost too much to be realistic. Nigerian prices are way too expensive in USD terms despite having such a devalued currency, and I don't understand how everyone is quiet. That country is stupidly expensive for no reason at all🤷🏾

Excessive Borrowing Without Accountability: Further Affirmation of Imprudent Governance. President Bola Tinubu's administration has engaged in remarkably imprudent borrowing, escalating Nigeria's total debt to approximately N200 trillion. This represents an increase of over N100 trillion within a mere three years, a stark contrast to the roughly N49 trillion accumulated during President Muhammadu Buhari's eight-year tenure, which would have projected to around N80 trillion. As millions of Nigerians grapple with the shock of this unsustainable debt accumulation, the situation is exacerbated by the government's reckless approach to borrowing and a profound absence of accountability and transparency in the utilisation of these funds. For instance, data from the Federation's Budget Office reveals that the Bola Tinubu government borrowed N11.89 trillion in the first three quarters of 2025 (January to September), exceeding the planned borrowing target of N10.34 trillion by approximately N1.54 trillion. Under a responsible and accountable government, such an overshoot would necessitate rigorous scrutiny and explanation from relevant governmental bodies. Regrettably, this is not the reality under the current administration. Compounding this issue, only N3.10 trillion of the borrowed funds was allocated to capital expenditure during the same January-September 2025 period. This constitutes a mere 17.66% of the N17.58 trillion earmarked for capital projects, leaving a deficit of roughly N14.48 trillion, or 82.34% of planned capital expenditure unfunded. The most disturbing aspect of the financial management fiasco under Bola Tinubu is that there is no explanation or information regarding how the balance was utilised or deployed. The question that Nigerians are rightly asking and deserve an answer to is what happened to the balance? Was it deployed for recurrent expenditure/ consumption, for the entertainment of guests to Aso Rock or transferred to the Renewed Hope Agenda 2027 Election Campaign Fund? Nigerians deserve an answer on how our economy and resources are most unpatriotically managed. A New and Productive Nigeria is POssible, and Nigeria will be OK! -PO

Media Framing of Crime Along Ethnic Lines: Divisive. As an Igbo man, I have endured stereotypes, judgment, and labelling solely based on my ethnic origins. This is not an isolated Igbo experience. Most Nigerians have, at some point, been reduced to their ethnicity rather than recognised for their true character. I understand the pain of the ordinary Fulani man today, often unfairly judged by the actions of criminals he does not support, has never met, and who are not representative of his people. Even in America, such unjust labelling fueled the civil rights movement and prompted Martin Luther King Jr. to declare that people should be judged by the content of their character, not the colour of their skin. Every Nigerian ethnic group is known for its unique traditions, occupations, skills, and strengths. Crime, however, has no ethnicity. A thief is a thief. A terrorist is a terrorist. A kidnapper is a kidnapper. They are bad actors, not representatives of any people. They must be identified, arrested, and punished according to the law. We must decisively abandon the dangerous practice of blaming entire ethnic groups for the actions of a few criminals. It is unjust, it breeds hatred, and it damages our national unity. Let us proudly celebrate our diverse cultures, talents, and contributions, rather than falling prey to stereotypes and prejudices that politicians and divisive interests exploit for their gain. A new Nigeria must emerge—one where no citizen is condemned because of tribe, religion, or birthplace. We can cherish our cultural roots while standing united by justice, mutual respect, and hope for a better future. We are capable of this. A new Nigeria is within our reach. -PO

Dear Young Nigerians, One lesson from the 2023 elections, particularly in Lagos, should never be forgotten. In the period following the presidential election and leading up to the governorship election, we witnessed a troubling shift in public discourse. Conversations that should have focused on competence, governance, development, and the future of our nation were gradually diverted towards tribal sentiments, ethnic divisions, and unnecessary suspicion among citizens. Many sincere and well-meaning Nigerians participated in these conversations without realising that they were being drawn into narratives carefully designed by others. Throughout history, whenever politicians find it difficult to compete on ideas, performance, character, or vision, some resort to exploiting the fault lines of ethnicity, religion, and identity. Their calculation is simple: a divided people are easier to manipulate than a united people. Today, I see similar efforts emerging again, sometimes in more subtle and sophisticated ways. Narratives are planted, amplified, and circulated, often by individuals who genuinely believe they are defending a worthy cause, without recognizing the broader agenda behind such campaigns. Let me state clearly that Pastor Enoch Adeboye remains one of the foremost fathers of faith in our nation. For decades, he has consistently preached the virtues of peace, prayer, love, reconciliation, and national unity. Even when faced with provocation, his response has always reflected humility, restraint, wisdom, and grace. At 84 years of age, it would be unfair for young and able-bodied Nigerians to transfer to him responsibilities that properly belong to them. The task of building a better Nigeria rests primarily on the shoulders of the younger generation. It is their duty to lead the conversations, champion the reforms, and drive the positive change our nation urgently requires. We must be careful not to become instruments in the hands of those who secretly nurture division while publicly preaching unity. In most cases, their target is not the individual being attacked; instead, it is the person who is attacking. Their real objective is to weaken the bonds that hold us together as one people and one nation. I therefore urge all young Nigerians: do not allow anyone to recruit you into hatred. Do not allow anyone to weaponise your ethnicity, your faith, or your admiration for respected leaders. Question every narrative. Verify every claim. Follow the facts. Resist manipulation. The Nigeria of our dreams can only be built by citizens who refuse to be divided, who choose unity over hatred, and who place our collective future above narrow interests. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Good morning @DONJAZZY Months ago, you gave a young man 20M naira to disburse laptops. He didn't, nor has he provided accountability for that money, which is public funds. That's the subpoint of this tweet. The main point is that, he stands to implicate you in the future. What you may or may not know is: The young man solicited sensitive data like NIN from thousands of potential beneficiaries he lured under an application system trap - for laptops he didn't disburse. Members of his committee too have, consequently, been public touted as fraudulent. Hundreds of crimes are committed monthly with NIN. Should one of the unsuspecting applicants have their data used in a crime in the future, one can make a case that you funded him to fish private data from the unsuspecting public. A case can concurrently be made that it is impossible for you not to know his application request system or possible distribution apparatus before dumping 20M before him. Ideally, you should demand that he publicly accounts for the money - and should you decide to prepare a legal contingency, that's entirely your prerogative. For posterity sake, I have just executed my duty as Twitter's unappointed class captain. They will not turn your good into evil inside your hand o.

This one shook me to my core 💔 Nigeria has many ways of failing its people… and this is one of the cruelest. Meet Gospel Uabari Kinanee. In 2007, he was just 14 years old. He left home to play football with friends and never came back. For months, his family turned Rivers State upside down. Hospitals, police stations, morgues — they checked everywhere. No Gospel. The search broke them. His parents sold their land, their property, everything they had to find their son. The pain and stress was too much. Eventually, both of them died from heartbreak 💔 The world assumed Gospel was dead too. Years passed. 18 long years. Then in 2025, out of nowhere, his older brother got a call: “We found your brother. He’s in a correctional facility in Rivers State.” For 18 years, Gospel had been locked up. A 14-year-old boy who went out to play. When they asked for his case file, there was nothing. No charges. No court record. No reason for his arrest. Just a child… forgotten behind bars. The worst part? Gospel lost himself in there. His mind couldn’t carry the weight. He doesn’t recognize his brother. He can’t explain how he ended up in prison. The boy who left home to play ball is now a man who can’t remember his own story 😢 How does a child disappear into the system for 18 years without a case? How many more “Gospels” are wasting away in prison right now for nothing? This is not just his story. This is a wake-up call for all of us. Nigeria, how do we fix this? How many innocent lives are we still losing to silence and broken systems? Talk to me #JusticeForGospel
