Feedback... Is valuable when offered by those we value: I find I listen to feedback when it has: Valence (relevant capacity) Appreciation (of purpose) Learning (for me, for others) Understanding (of context) Experience (underpinning it). How about you? Hx

Fantastic graphic. My #GPSurgery use this as their policy. Patients are marginalised, belittled & judged. Access is almost impossible. When did GPs become the victims? Why should patients serve them? When there is no alternative, what can we do? This has to change. Hx
“Hard to reach” “Disengaged” “Being difficult” “Not responding” Make sure you check it’s not “We are inaccessible” “We are not communicating right” “The service is too complex” “Our resources are not universal” What we in #NHS find “easy” is not the same for everyone we serve

Mum wants a change in the law; for families, by right, to have a second opinion. She wants 'Martha's Law'. The useless GMC states that all doctors must; ‘... respect the patient’s right to seek a second opinion’. Fat lot of good that did. myemail.constantcontact.com/…

There are no historic lessons to learn here. These were all abject failures to do the right thing at the time. Everyone knew what they were doing. Are they all still working in the NHS? Do you think they should be? I don’t. myemail.constantcontact.com/…

myemail.constantcontact.com/… Death by arrogance. Patients are prisoners to cult-like brainwashing. To survive in a medical career, you have to capitulate to the cult. Survival of the Dr = sacrifice of the patient. NHS is a communist state. No choice, no chance, no alternative. Hx

re-humanising.co.uk/2019/03/… At this time of year, as exams threaten to swamp our young people, & we do our best to help, look out for the sponges, those who go the extra mile, who carry some of the weight. Hx

re-humanising.co.uk/2021/04/… Just over 2 years since my dog died & I realised my Med Ed career had too. Today I have a new career, & how fulfilled I feel. The cycle of nature: birth, life, death, rebirth is magical. If you're in a rut, break free. I did & haven't looked back. Hx

However I still miss my incredible colleagues including those at @atlseastbourne @NHSLTLC and the amazing clinicians I worked with over three decades. Politics may erode our workplace practices but great people are always with us. Hx

Revisiting the blog with glorious new colleagues. I have returned to the education of our young ppl, working in a 6th form College, but our stories have universal appeal. Re humanising is essential wherever we work. Keep an eye for our most loved stories...coming soon...

Replying to @JonnyHolley
Because it shows you look outwards not inwards, teaching builds job satisfaction, helps you get a job in the future, gives you other options as you build new skills. Your value to a department is defined by the stuff you do beyond just the clinical work.

This! So many people are attracted to the helping professions because they themselves need help. We need to help them first before letting them loose on our most vulnerable. Hx

Normalised exploitation. Ah that good ol’ self-sacrifice of medical culture strikes again
not a LARGE ACADEMIC HOSPITAL asking already-underpaid medical staff to VOLUNTEER their hours…and in the same email telling them how to pay for parking during said volunteering 🤯 the AUDACITY

THIS! When are we going to see the light? As long as we continue with the binary, biomedical scientific categories, we continue to exacerbate the problem. Labels benefit the labeller, not those labelled. Hx
The stigmatising idea that people in emotional pain may have brains (or parts of brains) that are dysfunctional, defective, imbalanced &/or disordered has become part of our zeitgeist, rendering our relationship to suffering more fatalistic, fearful & tortured.
