During an International Olympic Committee executive board press conference, Dr. Karl Stoss, the Chair of the IOC's Future Host Commission for the Olympic Winter Games, did not entirely shut the door on cross-country and cyclocross being added at the 2034 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Stoss: "We decided, very clear, for the upcoming Winter Olympics that we would like to keep the identity of Winter sports of snow and ice. These are the Winter Olympic Games. No crossover. It's a moment. But that does not mean that in the future, it could be a discipline that would come to the program....We will check it. If it comes to the table, we will discuss it, find a solution and decide."
Cross-country and cyclocross were left off the program for the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps since the Olympic Charter requires sports to be played on snow and ice.
