During an International Olympic Committee executive board press conference, Dr. Karl Stoss, the Chair of the IOC's Future Host Commission for the Olympic Winter Games, did not entirely shut the door on cross-country and cyclocross being added at the 2034 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Stoss: "We decided, very clear, for the upcoming Winter Olympics that we would like to keep the identity of Winter sports of snow and ice. These are the Winter Olympic Games. No crossover. It's a moment. But that does not mean that in the future, it could be a discipline that would come to the program....We will check it. If it comes to the table, we will discuss it, find a solution and decide." Cross-country and cyclocross were left off the program for the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps since the Olympic Charter requires sports to be played on snow and ice.

One of my favorite parts of XC is yelling stuff at athletes... You can see it in their eyes while racing if they hear you and respond to it. Your voice as a coach or fan can help. Take the time to figure out what works/resonates with athletes.

The standards we need in the arena must also be there in training. What you accept in training is all you can expect in the arena. Excellence is something that must be practiced.

Wish the same could be said for cross-country!
Road Racing is doing things incredibly well. I have had 4 different corporations that have never been involved in the sport reach out to discuss how they might get involved. Always willing to preach the benefits of supporting the most overlooked demographics. Low hanging fruit.

3 takeaways from the IOC press conference (before more intel is gathered): 1. OLY Alpine XC was always a coin flip. The Fit 4 Future team is still in favor. Utah will be just as epic. 2. The best version may not have been in 2030. Longevity quality. 3. Talks don’t stop here.

But has the IOC considered these sports can and do often have snow and ice and that people would love to watch them in the Winter Olympics?
The IOC has confirmed that disciplines like trail running, cross-country running, cyclocross, and gravel cycling will not be added to the 2030 Winter Games in the French Alps, but stopped short of closing the door permanently on so-called “crossover” sports at future Winter Games. ❄️ 🏔️ IOC president Kirsty Coventry was clear about 2030 and said, “No summer sport and no all-season sport will be included. It will only be snow and ice.” However, Coventry suggested the 2034 Salt Lake City Games could potentially open the door to innovative non-traditional disciplines and added that the IOC needs to “figure out how we want potentially new sports, innovative sports and disciplines to come onto the programme.”

This is a poor decision. Cross-country would be perfect for the winter Olympics. Put the emphasis on tough terrain and pure racing over times. And it'd add in a lot of countries that traditionally never compete in the winter Olympics, expanding its reach.
IOC President confirms no summer sport disciplines will feature at @Alpes_2030. The matter will be reviewed by the Olympic Programme Working Group in phase two of the Fit for the Future process. Watch the full press conference on IOC Media YouTube 👇 🔗youtube.com/live/NToyWkkS1JQ…

Sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn. On to Phase 2
Replying to @ChKlaue
The question of adding summer sport disciplines to Olympic Winter Games will be addressed by the Olympic Programme working group in a second phase of the Fit For the Future process with a view to Olympic Winter Games editions after 2030.

The last time cross country running was contested in the Olympic Games it was...quite warm, to say the least. As summer approaches, there's even more reason to advocate for this winter sport. @Olympics @iocmedia @TeamUSA
