I just became aware of this, and I'm utterly appalled.
As someone who has led a production company and spent the better part of two decades immersed in the art of storytelling through video, I cannot overstate how enraging and disgraceful this is. There is no version of this where your actions are even remotely defensible. The use of AI to fabricate interview responses, to literally put words in someone's mouth that they never said, is not simply an editorial lapse. It is a grotesque violation of the most sacred principle in documentary and interview-based work: truth.
To attempt to justify this by implying your only mistake was failing to consult the subject is nothing short of absurd. That position is so staggeringly disconnected from basic ethical standards that it’s challenging to comprehend how it was posted without shame. The producer did not merely cross a line; they incinerated it. They stood on the trust that subjects place in content creators, and you shattered it for the sake of convenience or spectacle.
What’s worse, this didn’t happen in a vacuum. It happened within a space (the poker community) that already fights an uphill battle against the stigma of deceit and manipulation. What message do you think this sends to those outside the industry? That we are not only willing to deceive, but proud to defend it when caught?
You’ve set fire to credibility that took years to build. You’ve confirmed every worst suspicion the public harbors about us. And in doing so, you haven’t just embarrassed yourselves. You’ve embarrassed all of us who work tirelessly to build trust, tell honest stories, and give subjects the dignity they deserve.
I’m not just disappointed. I’m furious that this was allowed to happen. I’m furious that no one stopped it. And I’m furious that even now, faced with clear wrongdoing, they're doubling down instead of standing up, admitting fault, and making it right.
