#XLibre has been chosen over #Wayland by the #ArchLinux-based @AcreetionOS. Quoting the homepage, "We believe that while Wayland is promising, it still lacks the absolute reliability required for professional and production workflows." Please see acreetionos.org for more.

Edward Snowden said it first: "When you say 'I don't care about the right to privacy because I have nothing to hide,' that's no different than saying 'I don't care about freedom of speech because I have nothing to say.'" "Simply because you are following the law, doesn't mean that you'll be exempt from governmental interference in your private life."

Well this is just downright intriguing. VitruvianOS. Linux kernel with a BeOS / Haiku API compatibility layer. And its own display server (not X11 or Wayland). They just made their first real release (0.3)… and, judging by the issues on GitHub… it’s very, very Alpha. But this is unique enough that it’s worth a look. From the developers: “What we’ve created isn’t just a BeOS-compatible desktop—it’s an entirely different approach to what a Linux desktop could be. Decades of desktop OS development have been constrained by the X server model and later by Wayland. But what if you could do something different?” v-os.dev/news/vitruvian-0.3.…

The Aurochs once roamed across Europe - massive, powerful, and untamed - until it vanished in 1627. Centuries later, brothers Heinz Heck and Lutz Heck attempted the unthinkable: bringing it back. In 1920s Germany, they used selective breeding to “recreate” the extinct species, producing what we now call Heck cattle. But while these animals may resemble the Aurochs, genetically, they are something entirely different. So where is the line between true de-extinction and imitation? This is a story of ambition, science, and the blurred boundaries of bringing the past back to life. Watch De-Extinction on Curiosity Stream 🎙️Narrated by Matt K. Brazil's authoritarian age verification law became active this month. It won't be implemented by GrapheneOS. Complying would require integrating a mandatory process for each user where a third party service checks government identification and confirms a match using the camera.

My attempts to gain some official clarification from those in charge of CachyOS have, thus far, been unsuccessful. No responses at all from leadership. Responses from the CachyOS forum members ranged from personal attacks, to thinly veiled accusations of criminal activity, to demands for censorship, to… bizarre attacks on Charlie Kirk. None of those “forum member” responses were helpful in finding official answers (and clarifications) to questions that many people have. discuss.cachyos.org/t/clarif…

This is Senate House in London. When George Orwell wrote 1984, the building served as the model for the headquarters of the Ministry of Truth (the propaganda ministry). The Ministry of Truth decided what was true, for example that 2 2=5. It was responsible for censorship and rewriting history, and it banned the word “free” in the sense of freedom. When we projected our banned TV ads onto buildings in London, we thought this would be a fitting location. Nineteen Eighty-Four was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual.
