For years, Refugee-Led Organisations (RLOs) and refugee leaders fought for a seat at the table. When that failed, they built their own. Now, as funding cuts force international agencies to look toward RLOs, Nira asks the tough question: Is this a sincere shift in values, or a strategic maneuver necessitated by circumstance? True partnership requires full disclosure and genuine co-creation, not tokenism. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Read hear feature and more articles on this link: tinyurl.com/93tx6wxu

The 5th issue of Reframe Voices is out!๐ŸŽ‰ Is international aid truly ready to share power, or is it just running out of money and looking for a cheap way out? This month, we pull back the curtain on a system that keeps refugee leaders visible enough to look good, but too powerless to make real decisions. From the hard realities of the Kakuma water crisis turned into unexpected spaces for community solidarity, to EYE Uganda's challenge against minor school fees halting education, this edition exposes deep structural barriers. We dive into the land rights paradox facing farming groups and call out the systemic prejudice of endless corporate compliance. True partnership means shifting power. Refugee leaders don't need to beg for a seat at a broken table; they have built their own. ๐Ÿ“– Read the full May edition here: tinyurl.com/yc5mbsyj Deep gratitude to this month's contributors: Youniyas Abdurahman Seliman Nyibol Racheal Nira Ismail Alex Woja Jenny Basika Sabiti Edmund Page

In a powerful analysis for Reframe Voices Issue 4, Mendy Hameda highlights a critical contradiction at the heart of the global humanitarian system in Sudan. While the conflict expands into the countryโ€™s political and economic core, international aid funding remains slow and heavily centralised. Hameda documents how local, grassroots initiatives like Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) are keeping communities alive through crowdfunding and diaspora support, even as formal international channels lock them out. In Reframe Voices Issue #4, Dr. Aron Tesfai dismantles the narratives used to divide us. After visiting 12 RLOs in South Africa, his research reveals that these organisations aren't just serving refugees; they are creating shared solutions for shared problems. From digital literacy to GBV advocacy, RLOs are filling the gaps for the 38% of the population living below the poverty line. Social justice isn't found in divisionโ€”itโ€™s found in collective action against exclusion. ๐Ÿ“– Read the full feature: drive.google.com/file/d/1HDJโ€ฆ

In a new feature for the fourth issue of Reframe Voices, Deo Kamuzinzi from Youth Voices Community - YVC explores the shift from top-down aid to refugee-led leadership. For decades, INGOs have designed responses for refugees, often overlooking the "contextual intelligence" and trust held by those within the community. Deo challenges the myth of the โ€œcapacity gap,โ€ arguing that proximity and lived experience are professional strengths that cannot be outsourced. The question is no longer whether Refugee-Led Organisations (RLOs) are ready to leadโ€”itโ€™s whether the global system is willing to invest in them.
